About the Role

We’re hiring a qualified Labourer to join Places for People, the UK’s largest housing provider and one of the UK’s Top 50 Best Workplaces. As part of a dedicated team, you’ll play a crucial role in supporting customers’ homes and local neighbourhoods, carrying out essential repairs and maintenance across domestic properties—both occupied and empty.

What You’ll Be Doing

As our Labourer, your responsibilities will include:

  • Carrying out a range of general repair tasks across domestic properties, both internally and externally
  • Supporting multiple trades (e.g., joinery, tiling, painting, and basic plumbing) under supervision
  • Adhering to build specifications, safety standards, and procedural compliance
  • Collaborating with supervisors, schedulers, and teams to meet project deadlines
  • Accurately documenting work activities and completing required paperwork
  • Maintaining high-quality customer service standards in vulnerable Customer environments

Your Working Day

Your schedule will involve:

  • A mix of repair and maintenance tasks within your dedicated local area
  • Travelling between tasks via the company van for flexibility
  • Working independently or as part of a trade team
  • Direct interaction with customers in their homes
  • Ensuring efficiency, compliance, and quality in all tasks

Locations you’ll work in: ✔ Occupied homes ✔ Empty (void) properties ✔ A variety of domestic settings ✔ Environments living with vulnerable customers


Essential Criteria (Applicants Must Meet All of These)

To be shortlisted, you’ll need to demonstrate:

  • An NVQ Level 2 or City & Guilds qualification (Labour-focused or construction-related preferred)
  • Up to date and practical experience as a Labourer (ideally in social housing or domestic properties)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Based in the DE postcode area (due to local patch requirements)

Nice-to-Have (Further Value)

  • Experience supporting multiple trades (e.g., joinery, tiling, or plumbing)
  • Additional trade qualifications or relevant certifications
