Chartered Landscape Architect (Associate/Associate Director) – Edinburgh Studio Lead
About the Role
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Chartered Landscape Architect (Associate/Associate Director) to lead our Edinburgh studio and expand our Landscape Architecture presence across Scotland.
This is an inspiring opportunity to:
- Lead a talented team of landscape architects and urban designers.
- Drive design excellence, build client relationships, and win new business.
- Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams on high-impact projects across Scotland, including public realm, infrastructure, regeneration, urban design, and nature-based solutions.
As part of a wider UK practice of 80+ professionals, you will shape a growing studio and contribute to Scotland’s most transformative projects.
Your Responsibilities
As the Landscape Studio Lead, your primary focus is growing and shaping the Scottish Landscape Architecture and Urban Design team. Reporting directly to the Northern Landscape & Urban Design Team Lead, you will:
Team Leadership & Strategic Growth
- Develop and mentor a high-performing, collaborative studio culture, supporting both junior and senior professionals.
- Lead the strategic expansion of AtkinsRéalis’ UK Landscape Practice in Scotland.
- Foster cross-disciplinary collaboration with Buildings & Places and global teams to deliver integrated solutions.
Project Delivery & Design Excellence
- Oversee the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects with technical precision and commercial acumen.
- Champion innovative, high-quality design while ensuring meetings and positive environmental and social outcomes.
- Drive strategic business development, bidding, and work-winning activities to secure new opportunities in:
- Landscape architecture
- Masterplanning
- Urban design

- Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring long-term partnerships and satisfaction.
- Engage with local authorities, collaborators, and key stakeholders across Scotland.

- Develop compelling design narratives that address urban, economic, and ecological challenges.
What You’ll Bring
Essential
✅ Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI) – Essential for leadership credibility. ✅ Proven track record in:
- Leading and delivering landscape architecture projects in a consultancy setting.
- Directly managing multidisciplinary teams and complex projects with technical, commercial, and stakeholder considerations.
- Client relationship management and winning business through bids, proposals, and strategic pitches. ✅ Team leadership skills with a focus on motivating, developing, and retaining talent (including Chartership guidance). ✅ Commercial awareness with experience in project profitability, cost control, and strategic business decisions. ✅ Strong communication and presentation skills (internal & external). ✅ Flexibility to travel: Regular attendance in Edinburgh required, with travel across Scotland as a regular duty.
