Chartered Landscape Architect (Associate/Associate Director) – Edinburgh Studio Lead
Overview
AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Chartered Landscape Architect (Associate/Associate Director) to lead our Edinburgh studio and grow our Landscape Architecture presence across Scotland. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a talented team while contributing to a wider UK practice of 80+ professionals across public realm, infrastructure, regeneration, urban design, and nature-based solutions.
You will drive design excellence, build client relationships, and expand our market presence by leading a multidisciplinary team. Based in Edinburgh, this role offers the chance to shape a growing studio and deliver some of Scotland’s most impactful projects.
Key Responsibilities
As Landscape Studio Lead, you will:
- Lead and shape the future of our Scottish Landscape Architecture & Urban Design team, driving strategic growth and fostering a high-performing studio culture.
- Provide inspiring leadership to a team of Landscape Architects, Urban Designers, and broader multidisciplinary professionals, championing excellence in design and innovation.
- Lead and deliver complex projects across public realm, infrastructure, regeneration, urban design, and nature-based solutions, ensuring technical excellence.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, collaborators, local authorities, and stakeholders across Scotland.
- Lead business development, bidding, and work-winning activities to secure new landscape architecture, masterplanning, and urban design projects.
- Collaborate with Buildings & Places and wider AtkinsRéalis teams to develop integrated design solutions.
- Contribute to the wider UK Landscape Practice, sharing knowledge and best practices across regions.
- Promote AtkinsRéalis’ external brand through industry engagement, presentations, and thought leadership.
- Develop compelling design narratives and innovative solutions that create positive outcomes for people, places, and nature.

Responsibilities in Detail
✔ Team Leadership – Mentor and develop a talented team, including those pursuing Landscape Institute Chartership. ✔ Project Delivery – Oversee successful execution of multidisciplinary projects with financial, technical, and commercial considerations. ✔ Client & Stakeholder Engagement – Strengthen strategic relationships and champion client satisfaction. ✔ Business Development – Identify and lead bidding activities to expand market share in Scotland and the UK. ✔ Innovation & Thought Leadership – Drive best-in-class urban design solutions and represent AtkinsRéalis in professional discourse.
About You
We are looking for a passionate, commercially astute leader who:
- Is a Chartered Member of the Landscape Institute (CMLI).
- Has extensive experience leading Landscape Architecture & Urban Design projects in consultancy environments.
- Demonstrates proven team leadership, project management, and client relationship-building skills.
- Has a strong commercial awareness, with experience in profitability optimisation and project performance.
- Is internationally recognised for design excellence and technical expertise.
- Can inspire, develop, and motivate teams in collaborative work environments.
Key Skills & Experience Required:
- CMLI, professional qualifications, and leadership experience in landscape and urban design.
- Multidisciplinary team management for complex, technical projects.
- Successful track record in bid success, client retention, and business growth.
- Experienced in lead consultancy and project leadership.
- Strong stakeholder and presentations skills.
- Experience advocating for sustainability and nature-based solutions.

- Must be based in Edinburgh, with ability to travel across Scotland and the UK for work.
