Critical Care Registrar – On Call Rotas (Senior)

About the Role We are seeking an exceptional Critical Care Registrar (on the Senior Critical Care register) to join Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This post is primarily based at Basingstoke Hospital, with the possibility of covering other sites as required via the on-call rota system.

The role is specially designed to enhance patient care across Critical Care, Operating Theatres (BNHH), and Obstetric Anaesthesia, operating by day, nights, weekends, and bank holidays. The successful candidate will provides senior-level clinical oversight under the guidance of non-resident Consultant Intensivists and Consultant Anaesthetists.

Key Responsibilities

Critical Care Duties

  • Responsible for inflection point and role-switch duties within Critical Care (covering Intensive Care Unit, High Dependency Units).
  • Provide ward rounds, outcome estimation/decision making and management of critically ill patients (including transfer proposal from A&E).
  • Integral support for emergency admissions across wards and acute short stay.
  • Safeguard rapid emergency portals, Respiratory Consultant Out Of Hours (rooh) Enhanced, and Recovery & Assessment Unit: reassurances for return to ward.

Theatres

  • Full clinical commitment and support of a various range of Handover based duties.
  • Be actively involved with theatre operating lists, expected to anesthetise 4/5 hours daily averaged across shifts.
