Job Purpose
The Overhead Energy Linesman (LE1) is a key member of the project delivery team, responsible for carrying out overhead line maintenance, refurbishment, and renewal activities in a safe, efficient, and professional manner. The role supports the delivery of high-quality network services while adhering to safety legislation, operational procedures, and productivity and cost objectives.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a challenging, dynamic, team-based environment and will demonstrate a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities of LE1 Line Worker:
- Carry out maintenance, repair, refurbishment, and renewal works on overhead line networks and associated power supply systems in accordance with work instructions and company procedures.
- Work under the direction of the Chargehand and Site Supervisor, following all instructions precisely and observing all safety precautions at all times.
- Ensure all works are undertaken in full compliance with current and future health and safety legislation, electricity safety rules, relevant standards, and approved procedures.
- Interface effectively with Chargehands, Site Supervisors, client representatives, and customer representatives to support safe and efficient delivery of works.
- Complete all allocated work pack documentation accurately and submit records within required timescales.
- Provide technical input and feedback appropriate to the LE1 role to support safe working and continuous improvement.
- Report near misses, good catches, hazards, and incidents promptly in line with company reporting processes.
- Carry out work at height on poles and towers in a safe and professional manner, including the use of MEWPs where required.
- Utilise tools, plant, and equipment necessary for overhead line work in accordance with the Overhead Line (OHL) Manual and manufacturer guidance.
- Act responsibly when working on or near customer property, ensuring minimal disruption and maintaining a professional standard of conduct at all times.
- Support the team with additional duties as required to meet project and operational demands.
- Promote and demonstrate a strong safety culture, challenging unsafe acts and conditions.
- Maintain awareness of site-specific risks and controls, stopping work if conditions are unsafe.

Knowledge & Skills Requirements:

- Competence as an Overhead Linesman LE1.
- Experience working on overhead electricity distribution networks.
- Ability to work safely at height and in outdoor environments.
- Strong understanding of safe systems of work and team-based operations.
Desirable:
- Experience working on live or shutdown overhead line projects.
- MEWP, climbing, or utility-specific safety certifications.
- Safety-focused with a methodical approach to work.
- Reliable, adaptable, and capable of working in demanding environments.
- Strong team player with good communication skills.
- Committed to delivering high-quality work while being mindful of productivity and cost.
