Lead Accountant – Treasury Finance

Contract Type: Permanent | Full-Time
Location: Bradford or London
Working Pattern: Hybrid (usually 1 day a week in the office).
We welcome part-time and flexible arrangements and will aim to match your current flexibility where possible.

The Role

As a Lead Accountant, you will report to the Senior Manager within the Treasury Department and play a key role in supporting the Financial Control function. This position focuses on providing technical accounting expertise, analysis and financial reporting across treasury-related activities, including hedge accounting, special purpose vehicle (SPV) reporting and securitisation accounting. You will be responsible for ensuring accounting treatments are accurate, well documented and compliant with relevant accounting standards, while supporting business and treasury projects, improving reporting processes and maintaining a strong financial control environment.

You and your Team

You will join a collaborative Treasury team that works closely with Finance and business stakeholders to deliver accurate, high-quality financial reporting and technical accounting support. We're looking for a technically strong accountant who enjoys solving complex problems, analysing financial information and translating accounting requirements into clear, practical outcomes. You'll be confident working with stakeholders at all levels, thrive in a fast-paced environment and be motivated by driving continuous improvement, strengthening controls and helping the business navigate change with confidence.

As a Lead Accountant, you will:

  • Lead technical accounting across hedge accounting, SPV reporting and other treasury accounting activities, ensuring documentation, testing and compliance are completed to a high standard.
  • Own the preparation of group hedging documentation, securitisation accounting records, statutory entity ledgers and monthly interest expense reporting.
  • Work closely with finance and treasury teams to ensure complex transactions are accurately documented and reflected in both actuals and forecasts.
  • Provide technical and analytical support to treasury projects, new business initiatives and the implementation of new systems and processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement in reporting and financial control activities, while maintaining a strong control framework and escalating issues where needed.
  • Support the Senior Technical reporting manager on other technical accounting matters where required.

This role focuses on technical expertise, strong financial control and improving reporting outputs to support changing business needs.

What We’re Looking For

  • Qualified accountant, preferably ACA, with post qualified experience in industry or practice.
  • A solid understanding of IFRS, particularly IFRS 9 and IAS 39, with the ability to explain complex accounting issues clearly.
  • Ability to influence and challenge constructively at manager level and above.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to adapt information for different audiences and challenge constructively.
  • Strong attention to detail, organisational skills and the ability to manage deadlines across business-as-usual activity and change initiatives.
  • Commercial awareness and advanced skills in Excel, Word and PowerPoint, ideally within the financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of hedge accounting, including experience preparing hedge documentation and carrying out prospective and retrospective testing is highly beneficial.
