About the Role

To design, develop, and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform, and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.

This role is dedicated to spearheading one of our GenAI feature teams, developing applications used by thousands of colleagues daily to enhance efficiency.

As a Lead AI Engineer, you will be an SME (Subject Matter Expert)—guiding our Generative AI strategy while delivering scalable, high-quality solutions at scale.


Key Accountabilities

Technical Development & Delivery

  • Develop and deploy high-quality software solutions using:
    • Python (primary programming language)
    • Large Language Models (LLMs)
    • AWS services (Bedrock, Lambda, S3, Lex, CloudWatch)
  • Optimise prompt engineering and evaluate LLM performance to enhance application effectiveness.
  • Implement scalable, maintainable, and high-performance code with attention to secure coding practices.
  • Ensure unit test coverage and adherence to software best practices.

Collaboration & Mentorship

  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams to align solutions with business objectives.
  • Lead and mentor team members, identifying skill gaps and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Participate in code reviews and knowledge-sharing initiatives to maintain code quality standards.
  • Promote technical excellence by staying updated on industry advancements in GenAI and cloud technologies.

Strategic & Risk Leadership (Vice President Expectations)

  • Provide technical guidance to stakeholders (senior leadership, product teams) on functional and cross-functional impacts.
  • Assess and mitigate risks (alignment, controls, cybersecurity) in line with organisational governance frameworks.
  • Demonstrate business acumen by translating technical solutions into strategic value.
  • Collaborate across teams to align AI applications with business strategies and objectives.
  • Develop innovative solutions through complex problem-solving and data-driven analyses.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Requirements

✅ Must-Have Skills

  • Proficiency in Python for AI application development.
  • Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs) and their deployment.
  • Strong knowledge of AWS services, particularly Bedrock, Lambda, S3, Lex, and CloudWatch.
  • Hands-on experience with prompt optimisation and LLM evaluation.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

✅ Leadership & Mentorship

  • Act as a technical mentor to junior/mid-level engineers.
  • Identify skill gaps within the team and facilitate development.
  • Foster a culture of quality, innovation, and growth.

✅ Business & Strategic Alignment

  • Align AI solutions with business goals and operational efficiency.
  • Drive change and transformation through AI-driven automation.
  • Ensure alignment with risk, controls, and regulatory compliance (preferred: experience in a regulated organisation).

Highly Preferred Skills

  • Experience developing AI applications in a regulated environment.
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts (ETL, data pipelines).
  • Understanding of DevOps practices:
    • CI/CD (GitLab Runners, Jenkins)
    • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
  • Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes (ECS/EKS deployments).
