Job Title: Chief AI Architect
Fundment
A fast-growing wealth infrastructure company shaping the £3 trillion UK wealth management market with innovative digital investment systems and exceptional customer service.
About the Role
This is a high-impact leadership role with the opportunity to define and shape Fundment’s AI capabilities from the ground up. Reporting to the Head of Data & Analytics, the successful candidate will lead the design and delivery of AI systems to drive business scalability, enhance operational efficiency, and foster innovation in wealth management.
Located in Fitzrovia, London, this role offers hands-on technical leadership while fostering cross-functional collaboration across product development and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
AI Architecture & Strategy
- Set the technical vision and scalable roadmap for Fundment’s AI capabilities, ensuring alignment with GCP foundations and business objectives.
- Evaluate and select cutting-edge tools, frameworks, and cloud services to build scalable, reliable AI systems.
- Ensure adherence to data regulatory compliance, ethical AI principles, and Explainable AI (XAI) practices.
AI Product Development
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and prioritise AI-driven solutions that enhance business growth and customer experience.
- Develop innovative, production-ready AI models leveraging multi-modal data (e.g., time-series, documents, emails, phone calls).
- Translate business challenges into technical specifications and oversee execution from concept to launch.
AI/ML Operations
- Manage model governance with version control, compliance tracking, and deployment standards across production systems.
- Define and implement AI success metrics, including monitoring latency, performance decay, and data drift.
- Design and deploy end-to-end MLOps pipelines for CI/CD of AI models.
- Optimise cost efficiency of AI operations and enforce Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) standards.
- Implement robust production monitoring and A/B testing pipelines.

Team Leadership & Mentorship
- Grow a high-performance AI engineering team, attracting top-tier talent with mentorship, technical leadership, and code reviews.
- Bridge gaps between data scientists, engineers, and product teams to embed AI securely and efficiently.
- Mentor cross-disciplinary teams (analysts, engineers, product managers) on AI adoption strategies.
- Translate business needs into scalable technical solutions, aligning AI ambitious goals with realistic timelines.
Requirements
Essential
- 7+ years’ experience in AI engineering, data-driven systems, or software architecture, preferably in a high-growth or startup environment.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or equivalent technical discipline.
- Advanced technical skills:
- SQL (data manipulation, optimisation for complex analytical workloads).
- Python (with proficiency in LLMs, RAG, and AI agents) and additional language experience.
- Docker and containerisation for scalable deployments.
- Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) for repeatable provisioning.
- Stakeholder communication: Strong written/verbal articulation, presentation skills, and the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.
Technical Expertise Specific to AI
- Experience architecting AI systems using large language models (LLMs), Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and AI agents.
- Compilation of AI/ML prototypes into production systems, including offloading, versioning, and monitoring.
- MLOps pipelines for automated CI/CD, hyperparameter optimisation, and cross-platform deployment.
- Experience with production model monitoring (performance drift, lag, and cost optimisation algorithms).
Preferred
- Proven track record in financial services, AI regulation, or data privacy compliance.
- Professional certifications (e.g., GCP Machine Learning Engineer).
- Hands-on experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP, specifically Vertex AI):
- Vertex AI Pipelines, Model Registry, and Vertex AI Endpoints.
- Experience designing infrastructure for A/B testing and experimentation frameworks.

Salary & Flexibility
- Competitive base salary reflecting market rates for leadership-level roles.
- 28 days’ annual leave + standard bank holidays.
- Hybrid work model: 3 days/week in office (Fitzrovia), remote flexibility for the remaining 2 days.
