Lead AI / ML Engineer
Lead AI/ML Engineer – London – £145,000 Base Salary
Want to join a fintech scale-up where ML isn’t a side project—it’s the core of the product?
They’re growing their ML team, and this is your chance to shape it from the front.
About the Role
This is a hands-on, technical leadership role—not focused on people management. You’ll:
- Lead by example
- Drive development practices and technical direction
- Own the entire end-to-end lifecycle of ML systems, from Gen AI features to the data pipelines behind them
This is not a research role—you’ll ship ML products to production, systems that institutional investors rely on daily.
We’re looking for experienced software developers specialising in ML who bring:
- Real-world agentic experience
- A strong development background
- Robust engineering fundamentals, refreshed for today’s ML challenges

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
