The Role
The Lead Analyst HR Technology - Workday leads the optimization and continuous enhancement of HR systems, with primary responsibility for Workday. Exercising discretion and independent judgment, this role partners with HR and cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex business needs into scalable system design, configuration, and process improvements. The consultant drives end-to-end analysis, planning, and project execution, supporting the development, implementation, and maintenance of new modules and functionality. This role ensures data integrity, operational excellence, and an effective user experience across the Workday environment while aligning HR technology solutions with evolving business objectives.
What You Will Do
- Serve as a lead HR technologist with in-depth knowledge of at least two of the following Workday functional areas: Core HCM, Recruiting, Benefits, Talent Management, Security Administration, Advanced Compensation, Integrations, Absence Management, Time Tracking.
- Provide consultative guidance on best practices, end-to-end processes, and tenant strategy.
- Lead requirements discovery, process mapping, and solution design; translate business requirements into Workday configuration and clearly documented functional specifications.
- Own and maintain Workday configuration (business processes, eligibility rules, condition rules, calculated fields, tenant configuration), ensuring data integrity, auditability, and a strong end-user experience.
- Partner with HR and cross-functional stakeholders and downstream teams to deliver enterprise solutions that align to the broader HR strategy and operating model.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardize, and automate workflows; design and implement enhancements that improve user experience, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Stay current on Workday roadmap, feature releases, and HR technology trends; evaluate new functionality and recommend adoption aligned to business value.
- Lead Workday release management activities for functional areas of expertise: impact assessments, testing strategy (including regression), tenant moves, stakeholder communications, and post-deployment stabilization.
- Create and maintain system documentation (process maps, configuration decisions, job aids, and runbooks) and contribute to training materials for end users.
- Mentor and support junior HR Technology team members; provide peer review of configuration, testing artifacts, and documentation.
- Act as a functional thought leader by proposing forward-looking improvements, defining standards, and sharing best practices for scalable Workday design.
- Serve as an escalation point for complex issues; coordinate with Workday Community, vendors/partners, and internal IT to troubleshoot and resolve defects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
