Core responsibility: To shape and uphold high standards of operational practice in Cardiac Services within Bupa, ensuring effective leadership in angiography anaesthetic practice.
About the Role
The Lead Anaesthetic Practitioner in Angiography plays a pivotal leadership role within the growing Cardiac Services.
You will:
- Partner with the Head of Cardiac Services to define performance frameworks
- Develop meaningful KPIs and drive service improvements
- Guide operational excellence across cardiac, radiology, and vascular anaesthetic procedures
- Promote a safe, patient-centred, high-performance environment from induction through to recovery
Collaboration is central to this role, with key partnerships including:
- Theatres team
- Lead Specialist Nurse in Angiography
- Lead Clinical Cardiac Physiologist for Invasive Diagnostics and Therapies
- Superintendent Radiographer in Angiography
- Scheduling team
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Service Delivery
- Provide visible leadership in anaesthetic and sedation care (pre-, intra-, and post-procedure)
- Ensure governance, clinical excellence, and patient safety by:
- Conducting audits
- Reporting incidents
- Adhering to best practice in anaesthesia and sedation
- Oversee staffing levels, rota planning, and resource allocation to maintain a safe, efficient service
- Coordinate day-to-day service delivery, optimising patient flow and procedures

Advancement & Innovation

- Work closely with consultants and clinical leads (nursing, radiographers, physiologists)
- Develop high-performing, engaged teams through mentoring and coaching
Regulatory Compliance & Professionalism
- Operate within NMC/HCPC, CQC, and governance frameworks
- Hold accountability for ethical and safe practice
Additional Duties
- Mentorship & Development: Guide staff, review performance, and engage in recruitment
- Education: Contribute to training programmes across services
- Ensure all areas of anaesthetic practice meet established clinical standards
Hours & Working Patterns
- Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
- Flexible shifts: Typically 8am–8pm
- On-call commitment required
Requirements
Essential Criteria
- Relevant post-qualification experience (collected within a variety of clinical settings)
- Specialist Cath Lab knowledge
- Experience in advanced procedures through accredited training
- Certification in specialist diagnostic investigations
- Supervisory experience in day-to-day clinical contexts
- Experience in audits, research, or equipment trials
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (Adult) with the NMC, or HCPC-registered Operating Department Practitioner (essential)
- Diploma or Degree in Healthcare Studies (essential)
- Comprehensive cardiac anaesthesia training (essential)
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
