Lead Application Architect
Application Architect – Interim (6 Months) – Remote – UK-Based
Requires: SAP/ERP Experience
About the Role
A critical interim appointment to design the end-to-end Application Architecture for an Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) programme, comprising a carve-out of systems across multiple companies.
Scope of Work
Define Current & Design Future Application Architecture
- Map the current application landscape, covering:
- Core systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics 365 [D365], AX2012, SAP, legacy applications)
- Supporting applications (integration, reporting, middleware)
- Align with Enterprise Architecture standards and Application Strategy & Roadmap
Solution Design & Phased Approach
- Collaborate with PM, business, and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to gather requirements
- Translate functional needs into practical infrastructure designs, proposing a phased roadmap for integration (Solution Architecture)
- High-Level Design (HLD) Work:
- Application landscape & integration flows
- Data ports & exchange patterns
- Low-Level Design (LLD) Work:
- Detailed configurations & logic
- Define Application boundaries & Functional responsibilities per system
- Integration Architecture:
- ERP ↔ ERP (e.g., D365 ↔ ERP, AX2012, SAP, etc.)
- ERP ↔ external tools (e.g., logistics, finance, rental)
- Define integration patterns (API, EDI, batch, messaging)
- Error handling & monitoring strategies

Business Process Alignment & Governance
- Ensure applications support end-to-end business processes (Order-to-Cash, manufacturing, finance, etc.)
- Ownership decisions:
- Which system owns which process?
- Standard vs. customisation trade-offs
- Act as Design Authority by reviewing internal + supplier solutions to ensure:
- Microsoft-first approach with reuse & simplicity
- Prevent over-engineering & non-standard solutions
- Compliance & Security:
- Ensure applications meet GDPR & regulatory requirements
- Confirm security best practices across the architecture

- Technical input for Risk, Assumptions, Issues & Dependencies (RAID)
- Governance & Planning for technical risks & dependencies
- Application-related testing, validation & acceptance oversight
