About the Role
Location: Rugby, United Kingdom (hybrid working model)
We’re hiring for a Lead Application Engineer - Naval to develop cutting-edge propositions for naval and submarine power and propulsion systems. You’ll bridge engineering, commercial, and customer needs, ensuring technically superior, compliant, and competitive bids that drive business success.
This role thrives on collaboration, technical excellence, and a passion for high-stakes engineering in maritime defence.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical proposal development for complex naval power and propulsion systems, ensuring alignment with customer requirements and business objectives.
- Work with commercial, engineering, sourcing, and operational teams to refine bid strategies, cost estimates, and technical justifications.
- Develop and justify costed technical solutions, liaising with internal and external stakeholders to optimize performance and compliance.
- Engage with naval/marine customers to clarify requirements, interfaces, and performance targets—bridging business goals with detailed engineering insights.
- Identify technical risks and differentiators, shaping strategic solutions that strengthen GE Vernova’s position in global defence markets.
- Drive exceptional proposal quality, ensuring documentation meets technical, regulatory, and customer expectations.
- Support sales and commercial teams through the bid lifecycle, offering expert guidance on proposal integrity and technical positioning.
- Capable of avoiding geographic constraints, willing to travel for critical meetings, proposals, andénye developments.
- Collaborate across electrification, power conversion, and propulsion systems to drive innovation in submarine and naval missions.

Requirements & Skills
Critical Requirements
- Must be eligible for UK security clearance (as part of recruitment process).
- Willingness to pass background checks and suitability assessments.
Key Skills & Expertise
- Technical Leadership in power conversion, propulsion, or power electronic systems—experience in mission-critical, high-stress environments (e.g. naval/defence preferred).
- Proven ability to transform customer needs into robust, compliant technical proposals, balancing trade-offs between performance, cost, and compliance.
- Strong application engineering or design engineering background—ability to explain complex systems to diverse stakeholders.
- Experience in power electronics, converters, motor control, and electrical power systems.
- Familiarity with naval propulsion systems, hybrid/electric power architectures, and stringent defence standards.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with a detail-oriented approach to risk and performance assessment.
- High communication skills for client engagements, technical leadership, and internal collaboration.

Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Formal education (University Bachelor’s degree, HND, or equivalent) in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (though we respect real-world experience and achievements over formal qualifications).
