🔹 Job Description: IMS Auditor (Supporting a Major Nuclear Project)

As an IMS Auditor supporting a major nuclear project, you will provide independent, objective, and evidence-based assurance on the adequacy, implementation, and effectiveness of the project’s Integrated Management System (IMS) and associated governance, compliance, and assurance arrangements.

The role involves planning and delivering risk-based IMS audits, functional interventional activities, producing audit reports, verifying action closure, and fostering continual improvement in a fast-paced, highly regulated project environment. You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, report to the IMS Audits Manager, and exert significant influence across functional teams without direct line management responsibility.


📌 Roles & Responsibilities

Audit Programme & Assurance

  • Develop and deliver a risk-based IMS Annual Audit Programme, aligned with project priorities, certification requirements, and regulatory expectations. -Plan and conduct IMS audits, targeted interventions, and functional checks using interviews, document reviews, sampling, observation, and evidence testing.

Evaluation & Reporting

  • Assess whether IMS arrangements are understood, implemented, controlled, and effective across the organisation and key project interfaces.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-structured audit reports, covering scope, findings, risks, good practices, and improvement opportunities.

Root Cause Analysis (RCA) & Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure audit actions are tracked to closure, with corrective actions verified for timeliness and effectiveness.
  • Identify trends, recurring issues, and systemic weaknesses, providing data-driven insights to support strategic decision-making and organisational learning.

Stakeholder & Regulatory Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders while maintaining auditor independence and constructive challenge.
  • Support external audits, certification activities, and IMS improvements, including annual audit programme refinement.

📚 Qualifications & Experience

Essential

  • Good understanding of Integrated Management Systems (IMS) and relevant standards:
    • ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
    • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
    • ISO 45001 (Occupational Health & Safety)
    • ISO 19443 (Project Management)
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 19011 principles and modern audit practices.
  • Proven expertise in IMS audits, assurance, or quality oversight within a highly regulated environment.
  • Excellent written communication skills—ability to simplify complex evidence into clear, balanced, and defensible reports.
  • Strong interviewing, questioning, and listening skills, with the confidence to probe assumptions and examine evidence deeply.
  • Proficiency in data analysis, trend identification, and evidence-based judgement-making.
  • Credible stakeholder engagement skills, able to influence constructively while maintaining auditor independence.
  • Willingness to commute to London 2–3 days per week.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of nuclear governance, nuclear safety culture, and major project assurance expectations.
  • Experience in Management of Change (MoC), non-conformance handling, action tracking, or organisational learning.
  • Familiarity with assurance data, dashboards, or trend reporting supporting management decision-making.
  • Awareness of regulatory frameworks such as:
    • IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)
    • ONR (Office for Nuclear Regulation)
    • UK Environment Agency
  • Experience in working across complex interfaces with contractors, suppliers, and delivery partners.
