Lead Backend Engineer / Developer (Python C++ GCP) London onsite to £150k
Are you a senior Backend Engineer who enjoys building platforms from the ground up? Do you thrive in start-up environments where you can own architecture, shape engineering culture and solve genuinely meaningful technical problems?
This is an opportunity to join an innovative technology start-up that has developed a world leading navigation platform designed to improve independence for people with visual impairments. Combining advanced GNSS positioning, computer vision and AI, the technology delivers centimetre-level accuracy in challenging urban environments, enabling users to navigate the world with confidence.
The core technology is proven. The next challenge is scaling it.
As Lead Backend Engineer, you'll take ownership of the company's cloud platform, defining the backend architecture that underpins a sophisticated ecosystem of mobile applications, computer vision systems and edge devices.
You'll lead the evolution from an existing Firebase implementation to a scalable, cloud-native platform on Google Cloud Platform, building resilient, low-latency services capable of processing high frequency location, sensor and image data from thousands of devices in real time.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
