Lead BESS Engineer

Lead BESS Engineer

We're looking for an experienced Lead BESS Engineer to play a key role in delivering cutting-edge Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. This is an exciting opportunity to lead technical engineering activities across the full project lifecycle, working on utility-scale renewable energy and energy storage developments.

About the Role

As our Lead BESS Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership for the design, integration, and delivery of Battery Energy Storage Systems. You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, OEMs, and EPC contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering and technical delivery of utility-scale BESS projects.
  • Review and approve:
    • Electrical designs
    • Single-line diagrams
    • Protection philosophies
    • Equipment specifications
  • Manage technical interfaces with:
    • Battery manufacturers
    • PCS suppliers
    • EPC contractors
  • Provide technical guidance throughout project development, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover.
  • Support grid connection studies and compliance with relevant industry standards.
  • Identify technical risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers within the team.
  • Collaborate with project managers to deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Stay informed on emerging technologies, industry standards, and market developments.

What We're Looking For

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant experience delivering Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • HV/LV electrical systems
    • Power conversion systems
    • Protection
    • Grid integration
  • Experience working with:
    • EPC contractors
    • OEMs
    • Utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Knowledge of UK grid codes and relevant industry standards is highly desirable.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it) is advantageous.
