Lead CAD Technician
Location: Can be based out of multiple locations including, Glasgow, London, Midlands
Salary: Negotiable, excellent package and benefits

They are now looking for a proactive Civil / Multidisciplinary Lead CAD Technician to support the delivery of major water and wastewater non-infrastructure projects. You will play a central role in shaping project outcomes and driving design quality across multidisciplinary teams.

Role Overview
In this role, you will help produce civil engineering drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Civil 3D and related tools. You will support the delivery of treatment works and associated civil design elements, including site layouts, access roads, drainage, earthworks, utilities, pipelines, tank and structure layouts, chemical dosing areas, pumping station interfaces, and process-related civil infrastructure. You will also work with process engineers on P&IDs and process flow diagram drawings, while assisting mechanical and electrical engineers with layouts, equipment interfaces, service routes, and installation details. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and technicians.
Civil 3D Technician Location: Glasgow, London or Midlands
You will help deliver accurate, coordinated, and high-quality design outputs from concept through to detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and as-built stages.

This role offers the opportunity to develop your Civil 3D, digital engineering, and multidisciplinary coordination skills within a supportive team environment. As your experience grows, you will have clear progression opportunities to take on greater responsibility in drawing production, model coordination, design reviews, and project standards, with support available for technical development routes such as EngTech, ICE membership, and longer-term professional registration pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and development of civil engineering drawings and 3D models using Autodesk Civil 3D and associated design software.
- Support the production of general arrangements, site layouts, road and drainage designs, earthworks modelling, and utility coordination drawings.
- Develop and maintain digital terrain models (DTMs), surfaces, corridors, pipe networks, and grading models under the guidance of senior engineers and technicians.
- Assist in the preparation of construction drawings, detail sheets, and as-built documentation in line with project requirements and standards.
- Support the coordination of multidisciplinary design information, ensuring alignment between civil, hydraulic, structural, and utility designs.
- Assist in undertaking quantity take-offs and supporting the preparation of design outputs for cost estimation and construction planning.
- Contribute to the preparation, editing, and management of CAD standards, drawing templates, and project-specific Civil 3D styles.
- Ensure drawings, models, and design outputs comply with relevant standards, client requirements, health and safety legislation, and quality procedures.
- Liaise with engineers, BIM coordinators, contractors, and external stakeholders to support accurate and coordinated design delivery.
- Participate in design reviews, coordination meetings, and project workshops where required.
- Continuously develop technical skills in Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and associated digital design tools through project experience and training.

Required Qualifications And Experience
- Degree, HNC/HND, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Working towards, or interested in pursuing, professional registration or development through a relevant professional institution (e.g. ICE or similar).
- Experience in CAD drafting, Civil 3D modelling, or civil engineering design support, gained through employment, placements, apprenticeships, or academic projects.
- Good understanding of civil engineering principles, including drainage, earthworks, highways, site development, and utility coordination.
- Awareness of relevant industry standards, CAD protocols, health & safety requirements, BS EN ISO 19650, ISO 9001, and asset information requirements.
- Ability to produce and contribute to technical drawings, 3D models, and engineering documentation using Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
- Experience or familiarity with surface modelling, corridors, pipe networks, and grading in Civil 3D is advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail with good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary design teams.
- Ability to manage workload, prioritise tasks, and work towards project deadlines.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (essential due to site travel requirements).
