Lead Cloud Platform Engineer

What You'll Be Doing
- Lead the reliability, scalability and continuous evolution of a Kubernetes platform running on AWS EKS.
- Own the platform engineering roadmap, working closely with technical and business stakeholders to prioritise initiatives and align delivery with wider objectives.
- Lead, mentor and support a team of platform engineers, promoting technical excellence, collaboration and continuous development.
- Act as the primary technical contact for platform-related initiatives across engineering, product and operations teams.
- Drive GitOps practices using Flux, maintaining and improving deployment and reconciliation processes across environments.
- Manage and optimise AWS managed services including EKS, MSK and RDS, ensuring performance, resilience and cost efficiency.
- Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, creating scalable, reusable modules across multiple environments.
- Enhance CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions to support the reliable delivery of containerised applications.
- Work alongside development teams to support and troubleshoot Java, Kotlin and Python services running within Kubernetes.
- Identify technical debt and lead continuous platform improvements that strengthen reliability, security and operational efficiency.
- Participate in the on-call rota, leading incident response, driving root cause analysis and embedding long-term improvements.

Main Skills Needed
- Extensive experience managing Kubernetes in production, ideally within AWS EKS environments.
- Strong expertise with GitOps using Flux, alongside Helm and Kustomize.
- Hands-on experience with AWS managed services including EKS, MSK and RDS.
- Strong Terraform experience building and maintaining modular Infrastructure as Code.
- Experience developing and supporting CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions.
- Good understanding of containerised Java, Kotlin and/or Python applications.
- Proven experience leading platform or infrastructure engineering teams, including mentoring, coaching and supporting performance.
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- A strong operational mindset with experience leading incident management, on-call processes and post-incident reviews.
