About the Role
SGN’s Procurement & Supply Chain team is seeking a commercially astute Lead Commercial Manager to thrive in a fast-paced yet rewarding utility industry environment. Reporting directly to the Head of Commercial Management, this dynamic role offers exceptional career development opportunities and the chance to work closely with senior commercial business performance stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
- Apply commercial management expertise to long-term and strategic contracts, supporting key business objectives.
- Lead and grow a team of procurement and commercial professionals.
- Enhance existing commercial processes to ensure robust commercial management, introducing strategic improvements.
- Develop value engineering initiatives to optimise efficiency for both SGN and its supply chain.
- Lead a team in delivering sustainable and industry-leading contract strategies.
- Manage complex contract administration, including NEC3/4 and bespoke agreements for construction and infrastructure projects.
- Prepare and finalise tender documentation, including draft contracts, agreements, and bills of quantities.
- Collaborate with a broad spectrum of senior stakeholders, including Legal, Operations, and Finance.
- Contribute to commercial performance reporting for business leaders and decision-makers.
- Assess contract risk profiles, incorporating relevant mitigation strategies.

Requirements
We welcome applicants with a background in:
- Quantity Surveying, Procurement, Commercial Management, or Law (degree level most desirable, but not mandatory).
Essential skills and qualities:
- Innovative commercial thinking to drive value in a regulated environment while delivering high-calibre procurement services to senior stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure while maintaining output quality and prioritisation.
- Strong communication skills, with experience influencing and negotiating with diverse stakeholders, both within and outside your sphere of responsibility.
- Willingness to travel across the Southern network to engage with stakeholders and suppliers (travel costs may apply: [BL1]).
- Proficiency in IT systems, including all Microsoft Office applications and procure-to-pay solutions.
