Lead Commissioning Specialist
About the Role
Become part of a winning team and help to deliver the Green Energy transition.
As the Lead Commissioning Specialist, you will be technically responsible for preparing commissioning specifications and executing energised testing on-site. Operating as a senior member of the test team, you'll oversee system test engineers, with responsibility to review site test results.
Responsibilities

Lead the execution of HVDC System Tests on-site in line with contractual specifications.

Collaborate with System Engineering, Project Validation & Verification Lead, and refer to international standards for the preparation or refinement of commissioning test procedures.

Prepare, update, and manage additional testing procedures as required before on-site commissioning.

Conduct commissioning tests on Real-Time Digital Simulators to verify procedures.

Draft test programs and project anticipated durations to facilitate schedule planning.

Daily and weekly coordination and updates of the test schedule with the customer, in partnership with the Site Commissioning Manager.

Develop power schedules and daily/weekly power profiles.

Ensure compliance of tests with agreed-upon procedures through thorough documentation and verification.
- Review station/converter behavior with the AC network, ensuring satisfactory performance and documenting any unusual variances.
- Document all test results thoroughly for record-keeping and report-keeping.
- Implement a daily report process for all stakeholders at the conclusion of each testing day (collaboratively with the Site Commissioning Manager).

Compile Return of Experience (RoE) reports from each project to provide a conclusive RoE report upon project completion.

Progress reporting of system tests to both the Commissioning Team Manager and the Project Manager (daily/weekly basis).

Identify and alert key stakeholders of potential cost implications to prevent overspending and enable justified claims.

Monitor and analyze test schedule performance against overall project deliverables.
Ensuring Safety & Equipment Compliance
- Control and follow-up of:
- Testing and measuring equipment (status, calibration validity).
- Safety equipment associated with electrical activities.
- Conduct pre-day safety briefings with all stakeholders, including a full overview of the test plan.
Requirements
Essential:
- Degree in Engineering (or equivalent) with specialized knowledge in power systems and power electronics.
- Alternatively, proven experience/expertise in HVDC while possessing equivalent qualifications.
- Several years of experience as a Commissioning Engineer (preferably with experience as a Site Commissioning Manager).
- In-depth knowledge of:
- 400kV substations.
- HVDC systems (Line Commutated Converter (LCC), Voltage Source Converter (VSC), Static VAR Compensator (SVC)).
- Control and protection systems.
- Working experience and understanding of HVDC System Operational Behavior to evaluate decisions during testing.
- Excellent communication skills with fluency in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), with an added benefit of experience in Microsoft Project.
- Essential knowledge of Fault Recorder (TFR) systems.
- Substation Control & Protection, plus High Voltage Equipment Operation experience would be advantageous.
- Comfortable working under contracts with GE, although prior work experience is not a strict requirement.
- Willingness to undertake extended on-site work in international locations worldwide.
