Job Description

Wood is currently recruiting for a Piping Lead (Discipline Construction Lead) on a 12 contract basis. The role will be based on Teesside at the project site office at Redcar. If required, you will be expected to conduct occasional travel to EPC contractor’s design offices in Paris and potential EPC Contractor facilities in the UK and overseas. It will be a full-time site-based role with Mon-Fri site working pattern overseeing all construction areas on the project. Limited but regular overtime may be required in keeping with EPC working patterns, which may change through the life of the project.

The Role

Responsibilities

As the Piping Lead, you will be responsible for overseeing all piping construction activities executed by the EPC and PCC Contractors. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Health and Safety
  • Industrial Relations
  • Quality
  • Constructability
  • Readiness
  • Erection, setting, welding, punching, testing and pre-commissioning of piping systems
  • Turnover through to Mechanical Completion and Client Handover
  • Piping cleanliness, preservation, and readiness for commissioning
  • Leadership of client standards for “build it tight” and “build it clean”
  • Coordination with EPC Discipline Piping Leads for all piping scope
  • Coordination with EPC off-site fabrication, NDE, and painting providers as required
  • Coordination with Equipment Leads for hook-up to rotating and static equipment
  • Coordination with SIP Lead for scaffolding, painting and insulation requirements
  • Coordinate with Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning Leads as part of a systemised completion and handover
  • Coordinating with HSE Leads for ensuring lifting, testing and pressurising is assessed, planned, and conducted ensuring suitable plant and methodology are in place with appropriate exclusion and access controls.
  • Ensuring compliance with client specifications, project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements
  • Ensuring EPC reporting is compliant and reflects the status of the work

The role will involve close coordination with EPC engineering teams, site contractors, and off-site providers to deliver and erect fabricated pipework and supports through installation, turnover, testing, mechanical completion, and handover.

You will be based on Teesside at the project site office at Redcar. Responsibilities

  • Participate in Self Verification and Oversight process
  • Provide Client input to constructability and readiness process
  • Provide oversight for the field execution of piping works from installation through to mechanical completion and handover
  • Ensure all piping is installed, tested, and pre-commissioned in accordance with project requirements
  • Monitor contractor performance for technical compliance, cleanliness, quality standards, and schedule adherence; raise NCRs where necessary
  • Coordinate resolution of technical queries (TQs), deviations, and change requests with engineering and contractor teams
  • Review contractor proposals, method statements and construction work packs for piping activities
  • Support construction planning and progress reporting, ensuring accurate daily / weekly / monthly updates from the contractor
  • Participate in construction walkdowns and punch list management as part of mechanical completion
  • Ensure discipline handover documentation / dossiers are complete and meet project requirements
  • Identify and mitigate equipment specific risks, applying lessons learned and best practices throughout the project lifecycle
  • Collaborate with other discipline leads and the main contractor to ensure seamless integration of piping with other installation
  • Lead “build it tight” and “build it clean” to drive contractor compliance

Expected

  • HNC or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline is preferred. Consideration will be given if time-served with suitable experience in similar roles
  • Demonstrable experience in a similar role, on large scale EPC projects overseeing / managing piping installation including supports, painting, insulation, carbon and alloy steels, GRE, heavy wall and high pressures, bolt tightening, flushing, air-blowing, drying, preservation, punch out, walkdown, turnover and handover
  • Proven skills with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to oversee construction planning and execution while maintaining safety and quality standards

Desirable

  • Familiarity with multi-discipline interfaces and construction sequencing
  • Experience in energy transition or large-scale industrial projects
