Senior Project Manager (PMCM Education Team)

About the Role

Our PMCM Education team is seeking a Senior Project Manager to lead high-value and/or complex infrastructure projects—working with multidisciplinary teams for the Department for Education (DfE) and similar clients.

In this role, you’ll drive outcomes across control frameworks, champion programme delivery, and ensure cost efficiency and quality—both internally and externally. As the Lead Consultant for the client, you’ll apply strategic thinking to guide stakeholders, challenge inefficient proposals, and foster strong relationships.


Key Responsibilities

  • Client-Facing Project Leadership: Advise and support clients through stages RIBA stages 1–6, delivering consultancy-level project management.
  • Strategic Delivery: Develop and implement project plans to meet objectives.
  • Team Development: Recruit, grow, and lead diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  • Conflict Resolution: Address disputes and manage stakeholder interests to drive consensus.
  • Empowerment and Inspiration: Cultivate high-performing teams that achieve project success.
  • Contract & Compliance: Negotiate contracts on behalf of clients, corroborate with legal teams, and track adherence and variances.
  • Feasibility Studies: Own the development, coordination, and delivery of high-quality feasibility reports for stakeholders.
  • Procurement & Construction: Proactively manage procurement and construction phases by engaging contractors and interrogating proposals to ensure quality and value for money.
  • Programme Oversight: Monitor progress against timelines, report findings, and propose mitigation strategies for delays or challenges.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven success delivering public sector projects—particularly in education infrastructure—with local and central government agencies.

  • Health & Safety knowledge: Familiarity with CDM regulations and infrastructure project risks.

  • End-to-End Project Experience: Comfort managing projects from feasibility studies to operation, including deliverables at each stage.

  • Procurement & Contract Management: Negotiation, drafting contracts, and overseeing contract closure.

  • Multi-Disciplinary Leadership: Capability to lead a portfolio of specialities while managing client relationships effectively.

  • Programme & Risk Management: Skilled in stakeholder coordination, issue resolution, and mitigating schedule delays.

  • Cost Management: Collaborating with quantity surveyors to balance value and quality within budgets.

  • Chartership: Mandatory holdship of MAPM, MCIOB, MRICS, or equivalent certification.
