Lead Content Producer – Chester Zoo
One of the most exciting roles in content creation has just opened!
We’re looking for an outstanding Lead Content Producer to join Chester Zoo—someone with a real flair for visual storytelling who can produce compelling photography and video across multiple platforms, audiences, and objectives. You’ll lead the way in animal and conservation storytelling for one of the UK’s most beloved wildlife charities.
About the Role
Producing content for press coverage, broadcast media, and our 2.3M highly engaged social media followers, this role will share Chester Zoo’s story with audiences worldwide. Your work will contribute to the charity’s mission of preventing extinction through education and conservation.
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
- Lead the direction, creation, and delivery of animal and conservation content, including campaigns to drive visitor engagement, while collaborating across departments to support Zoo-wide brand and commercial objectives
- Produce and edit high-quality, impactful visual content—combining technical expertise with a deep understanding of how to adapt formats for different platforms and goals
- Craft scroll-stopping short-form content for our social media channels, engaging diverse audiences globally
- Develop content for TV, online news, and entertainment outlets
- Work to structured briefs while proactively uncovering compelling stories across the zoo, collaborating with teams at all levels
- Develop and execute brand and social media campaigns, using insights to continuously enhance our storytelling
- Supervise and mentor a Creative & Content Producer

Requirements
The ideal candidate will have:
- Expertise in shooting (videography and photography), editing, and content production using:
- Adobe Premiere Pro, Lightroom, After Effects, and Photoshop (or equivalent industry tools)
- A strong portfolio of producing content across multiple channels, generating high engagement from large online communities
- Exceptional visual storytelling skills
- Proven experience in a fast-paced environment, creating content for multiple platforms daily or weekly
- A relevant degree in media, communications, or filmmaking, or equivalent industry experience
- Strong self-sufficiency, leadership, and relationship-building skills, confident in directing colleagues to achieve the best results

Core Offer
- £32,725–£34,000 per year (dependent on experience)
- 40-hour workweek (Monday–Friday, 8:30am–5pm)
- Primary location at Chester Zoo, with hybrid working options for creative tasks (e.g., editing days)
- 33 days annual leave (increasing annually)
- Part-time zoo membership (for the role-holder plus one dependent)
- Minimal weekend/evening work with time in lieu
