Lead Controls & Automation Engineer – Naval | Rugby | Permanent
We are looking for a Lead Controls & Automation Engineer to join a highly skilled engineering team delivering advanced control and automation systems for critical power and propulsion applications.
What you'll be doing:
- Lead the design, implementation, testing, and delivery of control system projects from initial order through to commissioning and sea trials.
- Design PLC architectures, HMI/SCADA systems, industrial networks, and communications interfaces.
- Develop PLC software using IEC 61131-3 programming languages, including Ladder Logic (LD), Structured Text (ST), Function Block Diagram (FBD), and Sequential Function Charts (SFC).
- Produce design, installation, and test documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
- Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and support commissioning activities.
- Work closely with customers, suppliers, classification societies, and multidisciplinary engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

What we're looking for:
- Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Industrial Control Systems Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
- Experience designing and integrating industrial control and automation systems.
- Strong PLC programming experience.
- Knowledge of industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, OPC-UA, Profibus, Profinet, and similar technologies.
- Experience with HMI/SCADA systems.
- Unrestricted Right to Work in the UK.

Desirable experience:
- Control systems integration.
- Operational Technology (OT) Cyber Security awareness.
- Functional Safety (IEC 61508).
- Chartered Engineer status (or working towards it).
- Willingness to travel for commissioning activities within the UK and internationally.
