Job Description Summary GE Power Conversion is a world leader in developing and maintaining Dynamic Positioning Systems for the Marine Industry. We are looking for an experienced control engineer to join our team of experts in a role that combines engineering skills with software implementation. Job Description Dynamic Positioning (DP) technology is what allows offshore vessels — from wind farm installation ships to deep-sea drilling platforms — to hold position with pinpoint precision, without anchors, in some of the world's most demanding conditions. At GE Vernova, we're a world leader in developing and maintaining these systems for the marine industry, and we're looking for an experienced controls engineer to help us push that technology further. This is a role that blends rigorous control engineering with hands-on software implementation — and where your work will directly influence how vessels around the world operate safely and efficiently. What You'll Do You'll be a core technical contributor to our DP product development team, owning the design and validation of control algorithms and providing expert support across the full product lifecycle. Specifically, you will: Develop and enhance DP control systems — specify and implement new developments to expand the capability of the existing DP system and associated tools; develop control algorithms for vessel movement; and lead modernisation and porting of existing functionality to new platforms and operating systems. Build and validate simulation environments — develop simulation environments in MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent tools to validate control algorithms, investigate issues reported on vessels in operation, and support continuous improvement and simplification of existing systems. Support projects and service teams — provide technical support to Issue-to-Order (ITO), Order-to-Receipt (OTR), commissioning, and global service teams; investigate and resolve operational issues reported from vessels in the field; and travel to customer or GE Vernova development sites as required. Shape strategy and drive innovation — proactively identify and propose new developments; support stakeholder discussions to define the future strategy for DP systems; and maintain awareness of key technical trends and competitor capabilities within the DP industry. Engage customers and stakeholders — prepare and present technical data and recommendations to internal and external audiences at varying levels of technical expertise; support business development by articulating GE Vernova's technical capabilities and the case for solutions offered. Who We're Looking For You're a controls or automation engineer with proven experience developing algorithms and simulations — someone who is equally comfortable with rigorous engineering analysis and practical software implementation, and who can communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences. Required A formal education in Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline is valued, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements. Strong, proven experience in automation, control engineering, or a closely related technical discipline. Demonstrated ability to develop control models and simulations using MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent modelling tools. Practical experience with cross-platform programming. Strong communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly to stakeholders with varying levels of technical expertise. Ability to manage multiple workstreams to tight timescales. Preferred Experience working with Dynamic Positioning systems or in the marine industry. Familiarity with DP industry standards and classification society requirements. Experience supporting commissioning or field service activities. Prior experience in a technical lead or mentoring capacity. Why GE Vernova At GE Vernova, we combine world-class engineering expertise with a clear mission: to electrify and decarbonise the world. Our Power Conversion & Storage business works with some of the world's leading energy, maritime, and industrial organisations — and the technologies we develop here have a real and lasting impact. Join us in Rugby and be part of a team where engineering excellence and innovation go hand in hand. Additional Information Relocation Assistance Provided: Yes Addressing the climate crisis is an urgent global priority and we take our responsibility seriously. I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
