Behind every exceptional product is a commitment to engineering excellence, innovation, and commercial discipline. We are now looking for a Lead Cost Engineer to join our Cost Engineering team and play a key role in shaping the future of our vehicle programmes.
The Opportunity
As a Lead Cost Engineer, you will act as a recognised technical authority within the business, helping to define, challenge and optimise costs across both current and future vehicle programmes. Working at the intersection of Engineering, Design, Purchasing and Finance, you will provide robust, data-driven cost analysis that influences critical product, sourcing and investment decisions.
This is a highly visible position offering the opportunity to contribute across the full product lifecycle, ensuring that world-class engineering solutions are delivered in a commercially sustainable way without compromising quality, performance or the Aston Martin brand.
What You'll Be Doing
- You will develop and maintain detailed should-cost models for components and tooling, providing the business with accurate and transparent cost intelligence.
- By evaluating supplier quotations against robust cost models, you will identify opportunities, highlight risks and support informed commercial decision-making.
- Working closely with Procurement teams, you will provide technical expertise during supplier negotiations and sourcing activities, acting as a trusted and objective cost authority.
- You will collaborate with Engineering and Design teams to help shape product solutions that deliver the optimum balance of cost, quality, performance and manufacturing feasibility.
- You will also be responsible for competitor benchmarking and component cost analysis, helping identify opportunities for value improvement and cost reduction across vehicle programmes.
- Throughout the product development process, you will ensure that cost assumptions remain aligned with design maturity, engineering changes and programme targets.
- As a senior member of the function, you will help develop capability within the team by coaching and mentoring colleagues, graduates and apprentices while promoting best practice and technical excellence.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
