Waythrough was formed in 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Together, we’ve created one of the largest mental health and social support charities in England. Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.

Make a real difference in your community

Are you passionate about helping others live safer, healthier, more independent lives? Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lead Counsellor to lead, coordinate and deliver a safe, professional counselling service for individuals impacted by substance use and related challenges.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified counsellor who is committed to providing high-quality therapeutic support while leading and developing a counselling service. The successful candidate will combine direct client work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring the service operates in line with professional, ethical and safeguarding standards.

The Lead Counsellor will hold a small caseload, provide supervision and support to volunteer and trainee counsellors, and play a key role in promoting psychological awareness and trauma-informed practice across the wider team.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Practice

  • Manage a small counselling caseload, providing evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Conduct assessments and develop appropriate treatment and support plans.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and timely client records.
  • Ensure clients receive safe, person-centred and effective support.
  • Monitor client progress and evaluate outcomes.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
