Lead Data Analyst – Operational Excellence (FTC)

Analyst - Cost to Serve Model (Fixed Term 11 Months) | Quilter plc

Position Overview

Fixed Term Contract Duration: 11 Months Level: 4 Department: Chief Data Office (CDO) Location: London or Southampton Contract Type: Fixed Term

This 12-month fixed-term contract falls under the Chief Data Office (CDO) and reports directly to the Head of Analytics & Insights. This hands-on role focuses on data-driven operational excellence, with a primary objective of designing and implementing a cost-to-serve (CTS) model that provides strategic visibility into customer, product, and channel cost drivers. The role bridges technical expertise, business acumen, and leadership, aiming to optimise performance and unlock growth through analytical insights.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Cost & Performance Modelling

  • Design and develop a scalable cost-to-serve (CTS) model covering the entire value chain, applying activity-based costing (ABC) principles to map cost drivers to operational workflows.
  • Integrate diverse data sources (e.g., finance, operations, systems data) into a unified analytical model for cohesive analysis.
  • Extract, clean, and transform large datasets to establish repeatable and maintainable processes for sustaining the model.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and transparency through documentation of assumptions and methodologies.

Scenario Analysis & Business Insights

  • Build flexible models to simulate financial and operational scenarios, allowing data-driven, evidence-based decision-making.
  • Drive supplementary data initiatives to enhance Quilter’s operational excellence efforts.
  • Translate complex data outputs into clear, actionable business insights for stakeholders, aligning findings with strategic priorities.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Operations, and data teams to validate assumptions and recommend pathways for incremental improvement.

Technical & Collaborative Leadership

  • Act as a bridge between technical data teams and business decision-makers, ensuring insights drive results.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of models, methodologies, and versions to ensure auditability and transparency.

Requirements & Preferences

Education & Experience

  • A degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or an equivalent analytical discipline, or demonstrable practical experience.
  • Compelling evidence of quantitative and analytical problem-solving capability across previous roles.

Technical Competencies

Advanced Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in SQL (advanced level)
  • Python scripting, particularly in data analytics and automation
  • Databricks experience (preferably practical exposure)
  • BI tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) for visualisation and reporting

Analytical Expertise

  • Experience with financial cost modelling, particularly cost-to-serve or activity-based approaches
  • Strong statistical analysis skills, including regression, cluster analysis, and timeseries forecasting
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and data warehousing architectures

Business & Domain Knowledge (Desirable)

  • Working knowledge of contact centre operations (not mandatory)
  • Experience handling financial data analysis (e.g., cost allocations, markup dynamics, margin management)
  • Exposure to Operational Excellence or Lean Six Sigma frameworks
