About the Role
Permanent Opportunity for a Lead/Principal Data Architect within an Emerging National Security Consultancy in Cheltenham
An exciting new career opportunity in national security and defence data architecture, working on high-impact data projects for clients in central government.
- Salary: Up to £105,000 DoE (permanent)
- Location: Cheltenham (80% on-site, 20% hybrid)
- Security Clearance: Active Enhanced DV (West) required to start

Key Responsibilities
As Lead/Principal Data Architect, your core focus will be:
- Designing and delivering advanced data-driven systems to support national security organisations in making faster, data-informed decisions.
- Developing proof-of-concept (PoC) demonstrators to pioneer innovative data approaches.
- Refining frameworks, methodologies, and standards within the national security domain.
- Collaborating on end-to-end data solutions, ensuring scalability, performance, and compliance.
- Aligning data strategy with business and mission goals.
Requirements
Essential
- Active Enhanced DV (West) clearance (required to start)
- Willingness to work 4 days per week on-site in Cheltenham (remainder remote).
- Extensive experience in:
- Data architecture (modelling, analysis, transformation, migration, master data management).
- Data analytics & AI development (both techniques and applied projects).
- Automation of data quality metrics and KPIs.
- Proficient with one (or both) of the major cloud platforms:
- AWS: S3, Kinesis, Glue, Redshift, Lambda, EMR
- Azure: ADF (Azure Data Factory), Synapse, Fabric, Azure Functions
