## About the Role

We’re seeking a Lead Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering and Analytics practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, management, and optimisation of data pipelines to ensure efficient data flows and maximise opportunities for data reuse.
  • Coordinate teams, set best practices, and develop standards in data engineering principles.
  • Champion data engineering across projects and clients.

#### Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead by example, fostering a team culture that delivers high impact for clients.
  • Be accountable for the strategic direction, delivery, and growth of projects.
  • Guide teams, workstreams, and commercial outcomes, 덮 ownership of decision-making.
  • Navigate and manage uncertainty and ambiguity on behalf of both clients and teams.
  • Ensure inclusivity in team and project leadership.
  • Clearly articulate the story of our work, aligning progress with client goals and internal mission.
  • Optimise value delivery, balancing time, budget, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Execute strategic project planning with clear methodologies and approaches.
  • Elevate ideas through writing, speaking, and presentations.

#### Dimensions of the Role

  • Headcount: Typically leads a multidisciplinary team (5-15) or multiple workstreams.
  • Resource Complexity: Provides leadership across multiple domains, ensuring delivery coordination, prioritisation, and quality oversight (often supervising junior leads or specialists).
  • Problem-Solving: Addresses highly complex problems, balancing technical, user, business, and operational needs with expert judgement.
  • Change Management: Leads or co-leads significant transformation initiatives, managing stakeholder expectations and embedding sustainable processes.
  • Internal/External Engagement: Acts as a trusted partner to clients and internal stakeholders, leading workshops, presentations, and engagement strategies.
  • Strategic Timeframe: Works on mid- to long-term (6-12 months) projects, ensuring near-term deliverables support broader objectives.

## About You

Professional Experience & Skills (Essential)

✔ Proven experience in data engineering, data integration, and data modelling. ✔ Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP). ✔ Proficiency in modern cloud data platforms (Microsoft Fabric, Databricks). ✔ Experience with data analytics tools (e.g., Power BI). ✔ Deep understanding of data warehousing, ETL/ELT pipelines, and dimensional modelling. ✔ Proficiency in advanced programming languages (Python/PySpark, SQL). ✔ Experience in data pipeline orchestration (e.g., Airflow, Data Factory). ✔ Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD practices (Git, Azure DevOps, etc.). ✔ Ability to translate technical concepts for both technical and non-technical audiences. ✔ Proven delivery of complex projects in fast-paced environments with tight deadlines.

Desirable Attributes

✔ Advanced knowledge of data governance, standards, and best practices. ✔ Consultancy experience, with adaptability to client needs. ✔ Ability to define and enforce data engineering frameworks and reusable patterns. ✔ Professional certifications in relevant technologies (e.g., Microsoft Azure Data Engineer, AWS Data Analytics, Databricks Certified Professional Data Engineer).

  • Design, build, and test scalable, complex data products.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in delivering high-performance, reusable data integration pipelines.

  • Identify and mitigate risks and issues in complex data workflows.
  • Report on system test activities for audit, review, and improvement.

  • Demonstrate data integration expertise.
  • Develop efficient, maintainable code for large-scale systems.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control, and IaC (Git, Azure DevOps).
  • Track record of stakeholder communication with business-friendly technical clarity.
  • Strong ability to mentor teams and foster a high-performing data engineering culture.
