Job Title: Lead Data Engineer

Salary: £92,701 – £109,060

Location: Edinburgh, Leeds, Manchester, Bristol

Hours: Full time (35 hours per week)

Working Pattern:

Our work style is hybrid (at least two days per week or 40% of working time at an office site). We accommodate colleagues with disabilities through adjustments, including flexible hybrid working, as per Flexibility Works Policy.

The Role

At Lloyds Banking Group, we are pioneering protective innovation, securing customers, teams, and services in an ever-advancing threat landscape. The Security Data & AI Lab—a division of the Chief Security Office—leads this effort, shaping AI-driven and data engineering capabilities for smart, proactive cybersecurity defences.

We need a Lead Data Engineer to lead and shape our lab’s data engineering function. This is a senior technical and leadership role, demanding technical expertise while championing strategic alignment and business impact.

You’ll thrive by:

  • Defining and driving the data engineering strategy and product roadmap
  • Building and overseeing scalable data pipelines
  • Embedding secure-by-design and resilient data engineering practices
  • Enabling production-grade data foundations for AI, ML, and advanced analytics
  • Partnering with Security, Cloud, Architecture, and Product teams to align technical solutions with business goals
  • Mentoring junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a high-performance tech culture

About Security Data & AI Lab

We merge data engineering, security, and AI to orchestrate cutting-edge threat prevention. The team is made up of skilled engineers, AI specialists, and strategists all focused on embedding safe, efficient, and innovative data capabilities across security systems.

This leads to lasting impact—high-risk vulnerabilities are prevented with data-driven intelligence, while our team remains agile, providing the best-in-class defence for Lloyds’ customers, systems, and reputation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
