What You’ll Be Doing…
At Lloyds Banking Group, we are transforming how we protect our customers, colleagues and services in an increasingly sophisticated threat landscape. The Security Data and AI lab within the Chief Security Office is at the forefront of this transformation - engineering data platforms and AI-driven capabilities that enable intelligent, proactive defence.
We're looking for a Lead Data Engineer to shape and lead the lab’s data engineering capability. This is a senior role combining deep technical expertise with leadership, influencing direction and delivering high-impact outcomes across a complex enterprise environment. You’ll operate at the intersection of data engineering, security and AI, defining and driving the data engineering strategy and roadmap, owning scalable data pipelines, embedding secure-by-design principles, and enabling production-grade data foundations for AI, machine learning and advanced analytics. You’ll also partner across Security, Cloud, Architecture and Product teams while mentoring engineers and building a high-performing engineering culture.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
