About the Role
As a Lead Data Engineer (Consultant) at Kainos, you’ll take the reins on designing and developing data processing and persistence software components for solutions that handle data at scale. Working within agile teams, you’ll provide strong development leadership for your colleagues while ensuring the new or updated code aligns with both user needs and technical excellence.
Responsibilities

Component & Subsystem Development:
- Take ownership of designing, coding, testing, and refining whole components or subsystems within your team.

Technical Leadership:
- Define and enforce best practices in software development, methodology, and code standards, coaching engineers to achieve consistency.
- Specify and implement robust, performant ETL/ELT data pipelines — considering non-functional requirements like scalability, availability, and fault tolerance.

Quality Assurance & Testing:
- Lead execution and standards for unit and integration testing within the team.

Security Compliance & Operational Readiness:
- Work with security architects to ensure adherence to legal and security requirements.
- Collaborate with operations teams to ensure smooth transitions into production environments.

TechnicalGiveaways Negotiation & Delivery:
- Estimate and advise on technical trade-offs of user stories, solutions, and requirements.
- Contribute technical insights to proposals during the sales process.

Qualifications
Minimum Essential Requirements
- Experience leading a team in developing data-intensive system components, ensuring co-ordination across technical and business goals
- 2+ years experience applying design patterns, coding conventions, and automation standards in development and deployment practices
- Proficiency in at least one primary language, such as Java, Scala, or Python, related to data systems
- Hands-on experience with data processing platforms, including but not limited to:
- Informatica
- Azure Databricks
- Other ETL or ELT tools (Open-Source or Commercial)
- SQL expertise to model both analytical and operational datasets
- Advanced knowledge of distributed data processing frameworks and databases
- Ability to communicate technical designs and concepts clearly, whether written or verbal
- Experience designing data warehouse solutions
Desirable Qualifications
- Achnology/AI interest or exposure, no matter how casual
- Experience with cloud platforms Azure, AWS, or GCP (certifications preferred)
- Familiarity with modern continuous improvement methodologies and industry best practices
- Technical communitiesò involvement or public sharing of learning/work
- Certifications in Azure/AWS/GCP Framework relating to Data Services
- Prior issues with AI-model creation, deployment, or operational environments
