Lead Data Products Engineer – Energy Products Practice at Baringa
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Lead Data Products Engineer to join our Data Products Team in Baringa's Energy Products practice.
At Baringa, we partner with leaders globally to drive transformative change. As world leaders in modelling energy markets and leveraging these insights to decarbonise the industry, we specialise in developing advanced analytical models and the technology ecosystem behind them. Our new Data and Processing Platform sits centrally within this.
This is your chance to shape the energy transition—a defining challenge—as you design, curate, and evolve foundational data products that underpin our modelling processes, analytics outputs, and client-facing systems.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Lead a dedicated Data Products Team by defining the data architecture and equipping engineers and subject matter experts to meet real-world, evolving demands
- Engage with Baringa’s energy market experts to design, develop, and refine data products that directly support modelling and client-facing outputs
- Drive technical decisions that align commercial delivery priorities with long-term strategic goals
- Balance quality, reliability, and agility while evolving data products for increasing complexity in energy models
Engineering Leadership
- Build a deep understanding of our energy data ecosystem, mapping key data streams from terabyte-scale hourly projections to kilobyte academic datasets across 50+ years
- Own specific data product domains, ensuring their ongoing quality, reliability, and adoption in modelling and analytics
- Formalise data contracts, managing schemas, version control, and data governance workflows, while ensuring backwards compatibility and versionability
Team and Platform Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with the Data Platform Team to develop data capture and transformation processes that feed our modelling workflows
- Drives adoption of engineering best practices, prioritising observability and quality control from inception through delivery

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
