Job Description

Summary

A rare opportunity to lead cybersecurity AI initiatives within one of the UK’s most data-rich environments.

JOB TITLE: Lead Data Scientist

About this Role

Why it matters:

We're advancing digital transformation within the Chief Security Office (CSO), focusing on protecting customers, colleagues, and assets from cyber threats. As a Lead Data Scientist within the Security Data and AI Lab, you will own the future of ML-driven cybersecurity—building approaches that detect, mitigate, and prevent threats while maintaining high levels of explainability and operational safety.

Why you’ll thrive:

  • You specialise in cybersecurity, data science, or analytics-driven solutions.
  • You are eager to work at the intersection of AI, ethical governance, and threat prevention.
  • You want to innovate while balancing technology and real-world risk considerations.

What you’ll do...

You’ll lead and shape state-of-the-art data science and AI initiatives, ensuring cybersecurity solutions are scalable, ethical, and aligned with regulatory standards:

  • Own the delivery of security outcomes, including defining and evolving anomaly detection models that balance performance, explainability, and operational risk.
  • Lead a team of Data Scientists to:
    • Drive innovation in LLM-based security automation, including:
      • Prompt engineering
      • Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) pipelines
      • Fine-tuning security-focused generative AI models
    • Collaborate with Data Engineers to deliver scalable, secure, and production-ready ML pipelines on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Partner with cyber defence, risk, and compliance teams to ensure custom-built models are:
    • Ethical and explainable
    • Compliant with SOC2, SWIFT, and SOX standards
  • Shape organisation-wide best practices by contributing to the Data Science Community of Practice and proposing forward-thinking approaches.
  • Translate insights into actionable intelligence for collaboration across the Group’s COO and CSO functions.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
