Lead Data Scientist

This Lead Data Scientist role is based in the pricing function, a high-performing team responsible for delivering new pricing strategies across the Flutter UK & Ireland brands.
About This Role
You will play a lead role in developing and mobilising data science capabilities for experimentation, measurement, predictive analytics, and modelling workstreams. Within the UK & Ireland Trading function, you will connect with colleagues across the organisation to address sophisticated pricing problems and identify opportunities for pricing optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
As a Lead Data Scientist in the Pricing Team, your role will include the following:
- Explore and mobilise new data science applications for pricing, including the delivery of pricing models that leverage predictive capabilities to guide pricing strategy decisions.
- Deploy sophisticated statistical analysis and data manipulation techniques to:
- Analyse experimental data
- Identify trends
- Derive actionable insights
- Coordinate setup and definition of experiments, using statistical techniques and processes to ensure robust trial outputs yield meaningful conclusions.
- Build autonomous systems to monitor high-volume pricing experiments and strategies, tracking critical metrics against expectations and surfacing insights to the wider pricing team.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of experimental builds, methodologies, and results to ensure transparency and reproducibility.
- Lead preparation and present findings to stakeholders, clearly communicating the impact of pricing experiments on business strategies.
- Work with cross-functional teams (commercial, finance, product development) to align data insights with business objectives.
- Lead senior data scientists, coordinating their focus areas, workloads, and supporting their career development.

Requirements
- Experienced leader in data science, with a proven track record leading a data science function, ideally in a customer-focused or commercial domain.
- Proficiency in multiple advanced analytics and data manipulation tools (e.g., Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau).
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills—able to interpret complex datasets effectively.
- Experience with experiment design and parameter definition (sampling, control vs. test groups, front-end product changes).
- Experience in sophisticated statistical modelling techniques, such as:
- Regression analysis
- Significance testing
- Clustering techniques
- A/B testing
- Time series analysis
- Exceptional documentation skills, fostering clear and concise reporting with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills—capable of simplifying complex data for diverse audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset for identifying opportunities.
- Ability to manage multiple data and analytics assets simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrates a collaborative outlook, building trusted relationships within and across teams.
Ideal:
- Experience in pricing and/or pricing strategy projects within a large business.
