Vacancy Title: Lead Database Administrator
Location: Manchester (hybrid, 2x per week)

Salary: £80,000 - £90,000 + bonus
The Company:
Lorien are working with a leading technology driven organisation scaling its data operations to support mission-critical platforms. They’re looking for a Lead Database Administrator to own the technical direction, architecture, and roadmap for their database estate while mentoring a talented, growing team.
The Role:
This is a senior technical leadership role combining hands-on engineering with strategic influence. You’ll define standards, drive technical decisions, and lead the evolution of database operations toward modern DevOps practices. Acting as the lead technical authority, you’ll guide a keen but developing team, coaching them to work collaboratively and confidently.

You’ll be at the centre of architectural decisions, ensuring environments are secure and scalable. The role spans infrastructure, automation, and reliability engineering, with a strong emphasis on CI/CD and operational maturity.
The Skill Requirements:
- Deep experience across relational and non-relational platforms (MariaDB, MySQL, MongoDB, etc.)
- Excellent understanding of how to define and implement database strategy
- Expertise in HA, replication, clustering, and disaster recovery
- Proven ability to troubleshoot complex performance issues
- Experience leading teams and mentoring junior engineers
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD, automation, and IaC (Ansible, Terraform)
