Lead Design Engineer

We are currently looking for a Lead Design Engineer for a global Medical Technology company in Nottinghamshire. This position is a full-time, permanent position, and the successful candidate will be reporting to the Director of Design Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate customer requirements into clear, accurate, and manufacturable engineering drawings and technical documentation
  • Create and maintain 2D/3D CAD models and assemblies using SolidWorks
  • Act as a key interface between customers, sales, and manufacturing teams to ensure design requirements are understood and executed
  • Support Design for Manufacturing (DFM) activities and drive improvements in drawing quality, standardisation, and engineering processes
  • Manage Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering change requests, and documentation within PLM/ERP systems
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, or a related discipline
  • 10+ years' experience in design engineering or drafting within a regulated manufacturing environment
  • Advanced SolidWorks experience, including part modelling, assemblies, and technical drawing creation
  • Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering drawing standards (ASME/ISO)
  • Experience working with BOMs, engineering change processes, and PLM/ERP systems
  • Background in medical devices, bioprocessing, or other highly regulated industries preferred
  • Strong communication skills with experience collaborating across customer-facing and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
