Lead DevOps Engineer – National Security & Defence

About the Role

Join a growing consultancy delivering ultra-secure data infrastructure and modernisation programmes for National Security and Central Government clients. You'll work within an Agile team supporting mission-critical, real-time analytical platforms - solving real-world problems that help keep the UK safe.

Location & Clearance

Southwest England. Gloucestershire. SC clearance is required, with eligibility and willingness to go through an enhanced HLC due to the nature of the work and clients

Applicants must be willing to work 4 days on site once HLC is approved.

The Role

As Lead DevOps Engineer, you'll help lead the build and implementation of secure cloud environments hosting data and batch/real-time analytical platforms, using the latest commercial and open-source technologies. You'll also build automated deployments via configuration management tooling, and mentor the wider team in delivering customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build, test and deploy cloud infrastructure and applications using CI/CD and Infrastructure-as-Code
  • Contribute to custom test automation frameworks
  • Maintain and update scripts as requirements evolve
  • Support environment setup for manual and automated testing
  • Investigate and resolve production incidents
  • Conduct gap analysis and scope modifications
  • Support contingency planning, including backup/restore procedures
  • Document changes to modules and test activities
  • Mentor and lead the team on delivery

Experience & Skills Required

  • 5+ years delivering production-grade cloud solutions
  • DevSecOps and Zero Trust Architecture experience
  • Commercial experience deploying/operating infrastructure and applications on AWS and other public/private (hybrid) cloud environments
  • GitHub/GitLab/Atlassian Suite for source control and code review
  • CI/CD and IaC tooling (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)
  • Test Driven Development with relevant tools/frameworks
  • Containerisation and orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker, ECS/EKS, AKS)
  • Knowledge of event streaming technologies (Kafka, Flink)
