Lead DevOps Engineer

Lead DevOps Engineer

📍 Central London (Hybrid, 2–3 days/week) | 💰 Up to £150,000 | 🚀 Just out of seed

The opportunity

This is a rare shot to join right at the inflection point of an AI-driven operating system development for a security-conscious industry. A team of 15 (Founders with exceptional, well-known backgrounds) is building a unified intelligence layer that connects evidence, reasoning, and action across complex, high-stakes workflows. The systems must hold up under real-world pressure.

It’s an early yet senior leveraging position—you’ll shape the company’s DevOps foundation, working alongside operators from demanding enterprise AI environments.

Your systems will power security-conscious, compliance-bound enterprises, requiring the same trustworthiness as the AI it supports.

What You’ll Own

  • GitOps deployment backbone (Argo CD) to enable safe, continuous deployments across many clusters
  • Kubernetes on AWS (EKS), spanning an enterprise fleet of production environments
  • Infrastructure-as-code (IaC) in Terraform/OpenTofu + Terragrunt as the single source of truth for everything the company runs
  • Multi-tenant & isolation:
    • Deploying fully isolated, compliant environments per customer, each with its own cluster and data plane
    • Ensuring secure, reliable isolated deployments (the most demanding part of the role)
  • Security & compliance:
    • Secrets management, access controls, and infrastructure hardening
    • Maintaining audit-grade controls customers expect
  • Observability:
    • Setting up telemetry, metrics, logging, tracing, dashboards, and alerting
    • Ensuring a complex, distributed system remains transparent and performant
  • Reliability & incident response:
    • Crafting proactive monitoring, runbooks, and response protocols to protect customer trust
  • CI/CD & release automation:
    • Driving high-throughput shipping cadence without sacrificing quality
  • Developer experience (DevEx):
    • Making smooth, fast deployments and debugging accessible for engineers

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Who We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a hands-on Senior/Lead (or above) DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer with a track record of owning foundational DevOps infrastructure—not just managing teams, but building it directly.

You bring:

  • 5–6+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, SRE, or Infrastructure
  • Ownership of production systems, especially in multi-tenant, high-security environments
  • Deep expertise in Kubernetes, AWS (or another major cloud), GitOps, and IaC
  • A keen sense of balance—when to lean on tooling vs. human process—with minimal layers of complexity
  • «No-code-please’ intensity—you prefer code, not just architectures
  • High-bar experience from FAANG, Anthropic, OpenAI, Palantir, or elite AI startups—you’ve built world-class systems before
  • Hands-on mindset—you deploy, operate, and fix, not just manage
  • Tradeoff judgment: speed, security, cost, reliability all matter at once—you’ve nobiledged that summit
  • Security/compliance rigor: Experience with SOC2, HIPAA, or similar—controls = strength, not bureaucracy

Why Join?

  • Foundational role: Join early enough to build the backbone for a scaling 15-person team with large-seed funding
  • Full ownership: You’re not one among many DevOps engineers—you’re the DevOps engineers
  • Flexibility: Hybrid (2–3 days/week), central London location, energetic in-person culture
  • Competitive pay: Up to ÂŁ150,000, for high responsibility and autonomy

This is a high-stakes, high-impact role: faster than a typical pace, direct feedback, dynamic leadership responsibilities—where you must go where the urgent work arrives, even if it’s unglamorous.

You may not be looking for a 9–5. But if you thrive on crafting trustworthy infrastructure and unleashing adaptability, you’ll fit here.
