Overall Purpose of The Job

The Lead DevOps Engineer is a Glasgow-based, senior player-coach role filling a critical capability gap in the IT Director’s team. You will own security, cloud cost optimisation and developer experience, while actively coaching and upskilling engineers. The role is split approximately 50% coaching and upskilling engineers and 50% infrastructure strategy. You will report into the IT Delivery Director (hard line) with a dotted line to the Head of Engineering, and uphold engineering standards across squads working with our development partners.

Key Responsibilities

DevOps Strategy & Infrastructure (~50%)

  • Define and own the DevOps strategy, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure and tooling across ShipSure.
  • Own cloud cost optimisation (FinOps), driving efficiency and value for money across cloud spend.
  • Own the platform security posture, embedding security into the software development lifecycle (DevSecOps).
  • Uphold ISO 27001 controls and the information security management system (ISMS), embedding security compliance into pipelines, cloud infrastructure and ways of working.
  • Improve developer experience through paved-road tooling, self-service automation and reduced friction in the delivery pipeline.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
