The Role

You’ll lead the electrical design team in a one-team culture, ensuring outstanding performance while advancing your own skills. Reporting to the Design Manager, your role is pivotal in delivering electrical design outputs for wastewater treatment projects in Ireland and the UK.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate design teams to deliver high-quality outputs across multiple projects, guiding individuals and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Compliance with H&S regulations, adhering to CDM Regulations 2015 and all relevant health and safety policies.
  • Technical excellence: Extensive knowledge of pumping systems, electrical layouts, and wastewater treatment processes.
  • Collaborative design: Effective communication with other engineering disciplines (e.g., mechanical, civil/structural) and clients.
  • Project management: Overseeing third-party designs, procuring contracts, and ensuring detailed design, bid pricing, and construction documents meet standards.
  • Team & stakeholder leadership: Provide mentorship, support wastewater project delivery, and manage design change control.
  • Business development: Contribute to gap analysis, onboarding resources, and structuring growth initiatives.
  • Continuous improvement: Stay updated on emerging technologies and uphold sustainability & compliance standards.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multi-disciplined design team under the Design Manager, producing deliverables for water, wastewater, and processing projects.
  • Assist from pre-design surveys through tender pricing, including:
    • Feasibility studies
    • Electrical procurement specs
    • Pumping/cable calculations
    • Detailed design & construction drawings
  • Project manage third-party designs to support installation and commissioning teams.
  • Liaise with clients and subcontractors to ensure alignment and seamless delivery.
  • Foster a "one-team culture" within the department.
  • Monitor design performance against targets, update mid-programme documents (MPD), and adjust resources.
  • Ensure technical requirements, both Glanua’s and clients’ standards, are met at every stage.
  • Allocate resources, conduct progress meetings, and optimise timelines in consultation with project teams.
  • Facilitate design change control and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with mechanical/civil teams to streamline design.
  • Support business growth through staff expansion and strategy proposals:
    • Develop case studies for hiring initiatives
    • Conduct resources gap analyses
    • Contribute to company recruitment & team structuring
  • Lead in-site teams as a critical technical advisor.
  • Mentor junior engineers, fostering leadership and growth within the team.
  • Open to additional duties as needed.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Chartered or Incorporated membership of the IET, with proven expertise in water/wastewater and non-/infrastructure electrical design.
  • Deep knowledge of CDM 2015 responsibilities for Designers and Principal Designers.
  • Experience in quality control processes for engineering design.
  • Expertise in programming and budgeting, with demonstrated ability to manage progress.
  • Skilled in leadership, decision-making, and mentoring of multidisciplinary teams.
  • A proven track record in water/wastewater design (desirable).
  • Commercial acumen (advantageous but not essential).
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Full UK/Irish driving licence.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
