Lead Electrical Design Engineer
Location: Wolverhampton (Hybrid Working) Salary: Up to £69,000 + Package Hours: 37 per week (flexible working)
Join a leading UK Engineering organisation near Wolverhampton, with 60+ years of experience delivering high-integrity, safety-critical systems for major regulated-sector projects.
They design and manufacture complex EC&I and mechanical systems in-house, providing full lifecycle delivery from concept to commissioning across advanced engineering programmes.
About the Role
We are seeking a Lead Electrical Design Engineer to join our team in Wolverhampton.
You will:
- Lead electrical project design teams delivering complex engineering solutions from concept through to handover.
- Work on large-scale, high-integrity machinery and process systems for highly regulated environments, covering full-lifecycle design, integration, and commissioning.
- Handle advanced control systems, automation solutions, and safety-critical instrumentation for major Energy, Research & Defense Infrastructure & process facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electrical design work packages within budget and schedule
- Supervise and verify design deliverables, including:
- Schematics
- General Arrangement (GA) drawings
- Cable schedules
- Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
- Software documentation
- Produce control panel designs, including:
- General Arrangements
- Detailed drawings
- Schematic diagrams
- Interlock diagrams (for PLC & HMI hardware)
- Motor starters & drives
- Safety circuits
- Instrumentation & power distribution
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and interface with:
- Manufacturing
- Testing
- Commissioning teams
- Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation and relevant standards
- Participate in HAZOP and design reviews
- Manage design change control and contract variations

Security Requirements
This position requires access to sensitive engineering projects. Applicants must be eligible for UK Security Clearance.
Requirements
Education & Experience
- HNC, HND, or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or a similar discipline)
- Extensive electrical design engineering experience
- Proven track record leading Electrical/EC&I Engineers on past projects
- Proficiency with:
- AutoCAD / AutoCAD Electrical
- Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of British/European standards (e.g., IEC 61508) is advantageous
- Ability to gain UK Security Clearance
