Lead Electrical Engineer
Lead Electrical Engineer (EE Monitor Prepayment Devices) Nottingham City Council – Enviroenergy
Job Type Fixed Term (18 Months) Working Hours: 37 hours per week Location: 📍 On-site at London Road Heat Station, 12 London Road, Nottingham, NG2 3AB ( with national travel including occasional overnight stays required)
Salary Range
- £46,142 (Level 1) rising to £49,282 (Level 4) p.a. (pro rata for part-time; pending pay award)
About the Role
Nottingham City Council’s Enviroenergy team is seeking **3 compact, detail-oriented Lead Electrical Engineers to spearhead a metering upgrade project for 5,000 domestic properties.
Your Responsibilities
- Installation & Commissioning:
- Fit new EE Monitor prepayment devices (replacing legacy units).
- Install associated hardware (routers, data loggers, heat meters).
- Perform commissioning of systems and sign off on Minor Works Certificates.
- Maintenance & Support:
- Service and upgrade existing prepayment solutions in Nottingham’s district heating network.
- Address on-site issues for national domestic clients within the council’s portfolio.
- Technical Tasks:
- Read/interpret technical diagrams, blueprints, and wiring schemes.
- Conduct acceptance testing and quality sign-off documentation.
- Projects & Innovation:
- Play a key role in developing decentralised energy payment solutions for the UK’s growing market.
- Monitor installations across regions and sometimes overseas sites.
- On-Call Availability:
- Participation in the team’s on-call rota.

About You
We’re looking for a qualified electrician with a robust mix of technical expertise and hands-on experience:
Essentials
- NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an Electrical discipline (JIB Scheme or equivalent).
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations + AM2 certification.
- Electrical Inspection & Testing (2391) – up to date.
- Current live driving licence (national travel mandatory).
- Ability to read engineering diagrams and grasp complex schemes.
- Customer-service experience (balancing technical roles with client interactions).
Bonus Skills
- Experience with data loggers, routers, or decentralised energy tech.
- Familiarity with pay-as-you-go metering systems.
- Flexibility to work in varied environments, e.g., residential, commercial properties.
