Lead Engineer
:# Lead Engineer - Power Generation Technology Location: Dumbarton
Bring your technical expertise to Aggreko as Lead Engineer, where you’ll drive innovation in generator product development and major platform upgrades. Powering critical infrastructure — from global events to remote operations — relies on your engineering leadership.
About the Role
As Technical Engineering Lead, you’ll account for quality, cost, performance and delivery in new and existing generator products. Your work will optimise durability, efficiency, safety and total cost ownership — ensuring reliable, modular power solutions tailored to Aggreko’s modular mobile platform.
Your responsibility spans design, testing and stakeholder engagement:
- Align systems thinking across functional and commercial requirements.
- Translate engineering insights into high-impact product improvements.
- Guide multidisciplinary teams in test validation, supplier selection, and risk mitigation.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Accountability
- Lead engineering design input for gas/diesel reciprocating power generation units.
- Own technical delivery of high-performance designs, including:
- Creation and release of bills of materials.
- Component specs ensuring manufacturability and cost-efficiency.
- Risk-based ownership in compliance with legislative safety standards.
- Develop novel product concepts that align with Aggreko’s modular mobile product format.

Stakeholder & Team Coordination
- Define technical task priorities in collaboration with Product Engineering Managers.
- Coordinate system validation strategies and report on development test results.
- Engage suppliers and manufacturing teams to support design implementation.
Knowledge & Innovation
- Leverage engineering tools (3D CAD, thermal analysis, FEA, CFD) to drive technical excellence.
- Innovate across the product lifecycle, from ideation to decommissioning.
- Balance design outcomes with cost, reliability, and future scalability.
Requirements
Experience & Credentials
- Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, complemented by strong industrial experience.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred, given the executive implications of this role.
- Proven track record in gas/diesel generator package development for high-volume, commercial manufacture.
Technical Proficiency
- Computer-aided tools expertise (3D CAD, thermal modelling, FEA, CFD, and 1D flow analysis).
- Ability to assess complex design trade-offs and full-product-life impacts (cost, manufacturability, safety, etc.).
