Job Description Summary Role summary: GE applies the science and systems of power conversion to help drive the electric transformation of the world's energy infrastructure. Designing and delivering advanced motor, drive and control technologies, we serve specialized sectors such as marine, industry, energy and all related services. We are looking for a lead mechanical engineer to work in the equipment design team within our systems engineering organisation, based in our Rugby or Glasgow engineering centres. You will be responsible for developing our next generation of Naval products, designing cutting edge technology for future Naval platforms. You will be involved at all stages of the product development process from concept to manufacturing, collaborating with Project Managers, Technical Leads, and the power systems and power electronics teams to deliver on customer requirements. Due to the security restrictions on this role, applications will only be accepted from UK Nationals who either hold, or are eligible for SC security clearance. Job Description Roles and Responsibilities Develop innovative mechanical designs for power electronics, electrical distribution and integrated test equipment with challenging requirements for performance, reliability, cost and manufacturability. Create 3D CAD models and 2D drawings in PTC Creo and create and manage parts and BoMs in Siemens Teamcenter PLM system. Perform engineering analyses using a combination of hand calculations and software tools. Develop test plans and support physical testing of prototypes to validate your designs. Collaborate with the product and project managers to deliver customer requirements on time and to budget. Use of engineering tools and processes to optimise engineering throughput and quality, and ensure that DFMA techniques are implemented in the design process. Act as a technical point of contact for all mechanical engineering topics related to project work. Essential Requirements A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or relevant experience in a mechanical design engineering environment. Significant engineering experience with good technical knowledge of manufacturing processes, sheetmetal design, DFMA and material selection. A strong track record in product development, ideally gained in the industrial or electrical equipment sectors. The ability to read electrical schematics and use them to develop suitable mechanical designs. Proficiency in the use of PTC Creo, or similar 3D CAD software for the creation of 3D part and assembly models and 2D drawings. Good engineering, communication, and organisational skills. You must be a UK national and be eligible to obtain UK security clearance to at least SC level. Desired Characteristics Experience of the design of MV and LV switchgear and packaging of power electronics equipment. Experience in the use of Siemens TeamCenter PLM software for BoM creation & management. Expertise in stress, thermal and fluid flow analyses using a combination of hand calculations, and FEA software tools such as ANSYS and Fluent.
