The Role You’ll Lead
We’re looking for a Lead Engineer to own our most critical technical domain: the planning pipeline for routing, supply-demand matching, and parcel distribution.
As part of the Routing Squad, you’ll lead a team tackling cutting-edge computer science challenges—choices that shape how parcels traverse cities, balancing efficiency, scalability, and reliability. This is the chance to merge backend engineering, optimization thinking, and domain expertise to deliver core advantages for HIVED.
Your responsibilities will range from technical leadership to squad direction, mentoring high performers, and embedding a culture where engineering excellence is prioritized.

Key Responsibilities
You’ll be tasked with:
- Leading the Routing Squad across strategy, delivery, team leadership and execution
- Technical ownership of high-level systems: scheduling pipelines, live routing optimisation, parade optimizers, forecasting algorithms, and capacity balancing
- Translating business needs into technical strategies, measurable outcomes, and pragmatic roadmaps
- Guiding architecture and system design for scalable, adaptable, and resilient planning
- Collaborating across data science, engineering, product, and operations to turn complex challenges into real solutions
- Leading new approaches in routing, models, and distributed systems
- Definition and upholding engineering excellence through reviews, mentoring, and accountability
- Managing team growth: hiring, performance, career development, resourcing
- Cultivating innovation: relentless curiosity and adaptability as the technology matures

What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- 5+ years of software engineering—preferably in backend systems or large-scale distributed environments
- Experience leading engineers—as a manager or senior technical lead with measurable outcomes from direct responsibility
- Ability to translate business needs into technical outputs and prioritise tradeoffs with clarity
- Strong system design and architectural instincts across large-scale, production-grade systems
- Curiosity in hard optimisation problems—routing, scheduling, supply-demand balancing or constraint-heavy problems
- Analytical mindset with an ability to balance theoretical rigor with practical application
- Record of raising engineering standards across teams
- Cross-functional fluency—collaborating with product, data science, operations, and leadership
- Driven by impact—solutions with real-world, visible outcomes matter as much as the code
Nice-to-Have:
- Domain experience with scheduling, logistics, mobility or marketplace systems
- History of productionising algorithm-based solutions (e.g., solvers, predictive models)
- ROI optimization techniques: linear/programming, heuristic methods, or solver-based approaches
- Experience in fast-moving operational environments with direct physical-scale consequences
