Job Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic Lead Software Engineer to work at the forefront of our cloud modernisation, within our Credit & Verification Services. This is a hybrid role requiring travelling to Nottingham 2 days a week.
Background
Credit and Verification Services currently comprises nearly 100 engineering teams who deliver over 200 products achieving significant revenue per annum for our UK Business.
Our Tech
Our architecture is built on Kubernetes (EKS), enabling us to run scalable, resilient microservices in the cloud. On top of this, we leverage a wide range of AWS services (Lambda, Kinesis, Dynamo and RDS to name just a few), to enhance performance, observability, and integration across our platform placing a strong emphasis on quality and automation.
Main Responsibilities
- Working as a lead engineer in an agile team to deliver high-quality software solutions within agreed timelines, ensuring alignment with business requirements and agile principles.
- Provide technical leadership and strategic direction for the design, development, and delivery of high-quality software solutions, ensuring alignment with business goals and agile principles.
- Take ownership of the overall technical architecture, ensuring scalability, performance, security, and maintainability of the software systems.
- Champion the adoption of best practices in software development, including clean code, maintainability, efficient coding standards, and DevSecOps practices.
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional team members, including product owners, designers, QA, and other stakeholders, to ensure successful project delivery and alignment with business objectives.
- Lead technical discussions and decision-making processes, ensuring alignment with architectural standards, long-term technical strategy, and business goals.
- Manage technical risks and issues, proactively identifying potential challenges and developing mitigation strategies.
- Provide clear and concise documentation for code, processes, and system architecture to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintainability for yourself and the team.
- Translating our requirements to clean, scalable code ensuring minimal defects for yourself and the team.
- Mentor senior and junior developers, providing technical expertise, code reviews.
- Lead by example, demonstrating a passion for technology and innovation.

Qualifications
- Leadership capabilities with a focus on setting clear direction, aligning team efforts with organizational goals, and maintaining high levels of motivation and engagement across the team.
- Experience working with geographically distributed teams.
- Proven track record of building secure, mission-critical, high-volume transaction web-based software systems in regulated environments.
Required Technical Skills & Knowledge
- Hands-on experience with.NET 6+ or .NET Core or .NET Framework building scalable, maintainable and performant REST/SOAP/RPC APIs with microservice or SOA architectures using ASP.NET with proficiency in C#.
- Proficient in writing high-quality unit and integration tests using xUnit or nUnit, with hands-on experience in Test-Driven Development (TDD) and Behaviour-Driven Development (BDD).
- Experienced in using mocking frameworks to ensure test reliability and alignment with acceptance criteria.
- Experience creating and reviewing high-level and low-level design documents.
- Strong understanding of architectural principles, clean architecture, SOLID principles, OOP, design patterns, and concurrency concepts.
- Experienced in conducting code reviews.
- Familiar with static code analysis tools and vulnerability management.
- Proficient in working with either SQL or NoSQL databases. Hands-on experience with Entity Framework and data modelling for performance and scalability.
- Working experience of any source control, preferably git (e.g. Bitbucket, GitHub, Gitlab)
- Experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) practices

Useful skills
- Working knowledge of using GEN AI tools for coding
- Experience with Python/Scala or big data frameworks (e.g. spark) or Batch Processing.
- Working knowledge or certifications relevant to public cloud, preferably AWS.
- Experience with any of streaming, messaging, event bus technologies while build event driven architecture either Kafka, Event Bridge, Kinesis, Rabbit MQ, Active MQ or any other message bus.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation or Cloud Development Kit.
