Lead Engineer (Interiors, BiW & Closures) – CATIA V6 Specialist
About the Role
At Itera Mobility Engineering, we are seeking a Lead Engineer (Interiors, BIW & Closures) with deep expertise in CATIA V6 to join our automotive engineering team based in Bicester, UK.
This critical role requires leadership in full design specification, ensuring system compatibility and performance targets are met. You will coordinate supplier and internal teams, managing quality, cost, and timing constraints across the programme lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
To develop and execute the following functions effectively:

Design & Process Management
- Create and manage engineering releases for owned commodities.
- Lead commodity strategy alignments for high-level planning.
- Ensure commodities are engineered to mirror quality, cost, and timing targets set by Commodity Leads.

Failure & Risk Mitigation
- Coordinate and lead programme-specific failure mode avoidance (FMA) initiatives.
- Define commodity-level and cascaded system-level targets, leveraging simulation or physical validation for accountability.
- Manage virtual series progression (e.g., Grey to White).
- Oversee physical build concerns from containment to resolution (e.g., yellow to white status).

Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Lead cross-functional design reviews for owned commodities and delegate responsibilities.
- Lead assembly reviews with Manufacturing Engineering to assure build compatibility.
- Provide surface compatibility feedback to concept teams.
- Lead complex/recurring root cause analysis (RCA) for owned commodities.

Supplier & Production Collaboration
- Work with suppliers to ensure manufacturing feasibility for commodity designs.
- Lead design solutions to achieve functional performance targets.
- Create high-quality Engineering Information Documents (EID’s) to clarify requirements for PCE, purchasing, and suppliers.

Tooling & Development Support
- Collaborate with the development team to design bucks/rigs for FMA activities.

CAD & Workload Management
- Create and manage an interface matrix for owned commodities to ensure smooth cross-functional alignment.
- Develop application-specific location strategies for programme execution.
- Distribute CAD workload between internal and external resources effectively.

Essential Requirements
Candidates must demonstrate:
✔ Minimum 5+ years of automotive industry experience (preferably broader range), with a focus on BIW/Closures design & delivery. ✔ In-depth experience in BIW/Closures, including knowledge of:
- Relevant legislation & manufacturing techniques (e.g., SMC, Metal Pressings, Castings, and Extrusions). ✔ Experience in high-pressure pre-production and launch environments. ✔ Profound knowledge of CATIA V6 – critical requirement. ✔ Familiarity and hands-on application of Failure Mode Avoidance (FMA) techniques.
