ROLE PROFILE

The Opportunity

Lead Engineers operate in a cross-functional organisation, anchored to their home Chapter. The role reports to the relevant Chapter Lead and, where delivering on specific vehicle programmes, it has a matrix report into the programme Technical Centre Lead.

Alongside the Chapter Lead and fellow Lead Engineers, you will take responsibility to ensure the quality and robust delivery of products and processes by the Safety Components Chapter. With a focus on benefit to the customer, you will use your knowledge, expertise, and experience to influence on-cycle and off-cycle product delivery, working with Project Engineers, suppliers, and interfacing stakeholders.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Lead the delivery of the agreed Product Increment
  • Work with a multi-discipline team to deliver required customer value, meeting agreed quality, cost, time, weight, and sustainability targets.
  • Lead product status reporting using the appropriate client's tools and processes

Key Accountabilities And Responsibilities

  • Work On-Cycle to ensure robust deployment of agreed strategies and technologies.
  • Work Off-Cycle to develop the right strategies, technologies, and Body of Knowledge artefacts to enable the on-cycle product vision.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with all stakeholders.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.
  • Own and deliver the commodity plan, meeting quality, cost, and time targets.
  • Own and deliver the Engineering Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) deliverables
  • Manage change requests and develop solutions that achieve attribute and programme targets.
  • Manage component and sub-system test plans and support test teams with problem resolution.
  • Ensure all appropriate standards and applicable regulations are met through-out design maturation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Essential:

Hard Skills:

  • Previous experience of managing change and leading the resolution of business, technical and process issues within an engineering project team environment.
  • Experience in end-to-end development of commodities in an automotive programme
  • Engineering related Degree or relevant equivalent experience.
  • Working knowledge of safety system development including airbag and/or seat belt dynamic performance, manufacturing processes, related standards and test procedures and vehicle safety attribute delivery, including testing.

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently and proactively, taking full ownership and responsibility for own work
  • You see things at a team rather than individual level, considering the wider Chapter needs.
  • Strong people skills, including ability to communicate effectively and influence at all levels.

Desirable:

Hard Skills:

  • Previous experience of managing commodity suppliers and / or external agencies.
  • Knowledge of vehicle level safety requirements.
  • Previous experience in Safety Components, Restraint Electronics or Vehicle Safety roles.
